Well, we live in Levittown, and most of the homes are either ranches or capes.
We bought a cape and totally love it.

We bought a split.
We were interested in all styles of houses, except for capes becuase my DH is tall and never fit right in the houses we looked at.

We have a hi-ranch.
While it met our needs when we bought it nearly 7 years ago, I am not in love with the style anymore. I want a home where the bedrooms are on a second floor away from the kitchen, dining room and living room.

We have (or will in a few weeks  ) a Split. We weren't necessarily looking for one, we just found it and loved it.
We were pretty open to home styles although I didn't want a ranch bc I grew up in one, or an un-dormered cape.

Where do they have houses like this??
Georgia- outside of Atlanta- 26 miles south west
$385K
almost 2 acres on a lake
5 bedrooms,4 bathrooms, inlaw suite, media room, insane kitchen(all white with granite)- you name it-it has it
bye bye NY (our mortgage payment will be about what we pay in rent for a 1 bedroom apartment  )
ETA- the MLS ad calls it European
