We own a ranch. We looked at everything except capes. DH doesn't like them.

well.. i've always wanted a center hall colonial, very traditional.... BUT, we ended up getting a ranch. and i actually really like it- i like that the only time i hvae to go up or down steps is when i have to do laundry ( washer and dryer are in the basement)...
we're buying in-laws house from them this summer, and thats also a ranch, but an extended ranch with a full, walk-out basement

We started out looking for a Center Hall Colonial or Victorian, but because of the market we pretty much viewed everything except splits, splanches and high-ranches.

We live in a ranch.

Our biggest priority was finding a good location and decent amount of land (at least .5 acre). The home was almost irrelevant. We just preferred not to have a splanch/split/high-ranch b/c they're not easy to work with when adding on.

We have an old colonial with a wrap-around porch. It is exactly what we were looking for.

ours is now considered a colonial although the exterior has a more contemporary style.
It is truly a ranch with a second story addition.
Once we became certain about looking only in this specific neighborhood(only 800 homes) we really couldn't be picking on house style. 75% of the homes here are expanded bungelows. We got lucky, our house is bigger & much younger.

DH grew up in a 3 story tudor, I grew up in an L-shaped ranch.

I've always wanted a colonial because that's what I grew up in. But we wound up buying a cape. The back is dormered so there's a ton of room.

Center Hall Colonial. Yes, it is what we wanted - I just knew we wanted all bedrooms on the same level and stairs in the house. I am not a fan of ranches.

Was a cape but we dormered (sp?) so I think now it's considered a colonial.

We have a hi-ranch, want a colonial.

We bought a colonial and yes, it was wanted we wanted, I couldn't be happier

We bought a split, and I really like it a lot. Our preference would have been for a center-hall Colonial, but we just didn't see many in our price range. We also like ranches, but there weren't many of those in the town we fell in love with, so a split it is!

I looked at tons of houses and bought a split - just happened to be the one I liked. Although today we started work on an extension - we are adding another floor over the whole house, so I'm not sure what you would call it when it's done. And as ChathamChick said, it is not easy to expand.

It's not in NY- and I have no idea what you would call it- a tudor maybe?

We have a Levitt ranch.

I love the looks of Tudors and colonials though.

We purchased a split.

We werent looking for anything in particular, I also grew up in a ranch and him a high ranch.

We just looked for the right amt of rooms and size and it led to a nice split.

We're happy

right now we're in a 3 story townhouse and it was what we wanted at the time, but now that our family has expanded we're ready to move to a house. we're looking mostly at colonials.
