what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

I dont even know what made me think of this but all of a sudden it popped back into my head(I have tried to forget since it was the worst feeling EVER)
when my midlle child was 1 1/2 yrs old she was NUTS....I mean you couldnt strap her in a stroller she would literally wriggle out and strangle herself with the seatbelyt and even if you got her buckled she would would scream bloody murder the entire time you shopped!High spirited is an understament for her
so I needed HELP when it came to shopping with both kids so I asked my friend to come to KMart with me so she could watch dd while I tried shoes on my oldest who was 6yrs old at the time
so my oldest is trying on shoes and my friend comes up to me and says what do you think of these shoes (she tries on a pair) so I said cute where is Kayleigh??she says oh I thought she was right hereChat Icon
well I lost it DD was gone I was hysterical teh garden dept door was open and had access to the parking lot.....all I could think of was she wandered off and was gonna get hit by a car or a pedophile snatched her up
they called a code Adam and locked down the store
we are screaming DDs name and she isnt answering us
I NEVER EVER felt so helpless in my life
I finally found her in the dressing room looking at herself in the mirror and she looks at me and said HI MAMA
DH still has hard feelings toward this friend and has NEVER allowed her to watch the girls again

Other than hospitalizations for each of them (preemie & fever @2 weeks old), off the top of my head, I would have to say right before Joseph turned 2.

You know how they run & run & run at that age? We were at a beachside restaurant with my parents. We were all sitting around while Joseph & his cousins played around a brick patio. Suddenly Joseph darted off.

Since he was at the "I do it myself" stage, yelling "Stop!" for him to come back was useless. He was laughing & running faster away from us as he headed straight for the parking lot. Post partum only a few weeks, I never ran as fast as I did to catch him. I caught him before my husband did.

Re: what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

It was the day before I was going on a week vacation without Jared(this was when he was a year old). I was bringing him over to my mother's house and he was pulling the empty suitcase. All of a sudden he tripped and fell flat on his face and cut his lip wide open. Blood everywhere. I was shaking and crying and he was hysterical.Chat Icon

I drove to my mother's house with my hand bent backwards holding his hand while driving because he was terrified as well. I was so relieved that his lip stopped bleeding and he was fine after a half an hour.

When Joseph needed emergency surgery to remove a section of his colon. I still cry thining about the boys first few months of life, and how it was such a rollercoaster.

When Mattingly needed a heart procedure and I saw him with a IV in his head.

Joseph did lock himself in the bathroom once. He closed the door behind him and then opened the vanity drawer and it was blocking the door, so I was trying to get him to close the vanity, it took a good 25 minutes ot get him to do this, and I was so freaked that he would drown in th toilet and I would have to bust the door down. He was just playing in the drawer and didn't get what I wanted him to do.

Re: what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

Well she's only 4 months..the only thing that really happened was as soon as she was born (c-section after 2 days of labor) they just took her out & all I wanted to do was hold her & they held her up & then said they had to whisk her off to NICU. The dr. had a heavy accent & his mask on & all I heard was strepB. I lost it...I looked at my husband & was thinking the worst..brain damage, etc. I couldn't calm down.

In recovery my DH calmed me down & went to talk to the dr. & it turns out she just had trouble transitioning & was otherwise in perfect health. But those first minutes/hours were terrible for me.

Re: what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

It was when Ali coould first start pulling herself up. She was playing in the living room and I went outside to hand my DH a drink and all of a sudden we hear a crash and screaming, we run back in and there she is blood everywhere and a wine rack laying across her back.

THANK GOD we didn't have any wine in it. It was soooooo scary. Especially since it was the 1st time seeing blood coming from your child Chat Icon
She had a fat lip and a bloody nose - that seemed forever to get it to stop.

We still have no idea how she landed on her face since she was trying to pull up on it Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

It was last year with my youngest. Her school called to tell me she had hit her head and was vomiting. Luckily, I was only a few minutes away and when I got there she looked like she had a virus (which was going around) and there was no bump on her head.

To be safe I brought her right to my ped. and while we were waiting all of 15 minutes, she became almost lethargic and was vomiting every few minutes. I had never seen her like this before (given this was my second and she was just 4, I have lived through many, many illness) and it scared the sh*t out of me.

As soon as my doctor saw her, and keep in mind he is very low key, he barely examined her, and sent me right to the hospital. In my stupor, I asked him are you looking to rule out a concussion, and he turned to me and said I'm not concerned about a concussion, she needs to see a pediatric neurologist, to make sure there is no bleeding on the brain. I'm still not sure how I actually drove her to the hospital. Thank G*d, it really was just a virus and the falling at school was just a coincidence.

Re: what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

DS was born with a malrotation, his stomach was upside down and was blocking food. He would eat and within minutes throw up, go completely pale and lethargic.
The day after he turned a year we had to take him for surgery to correct it. It was the LONGEST few hours of my life. When the surgery was over and they led me back to the recovery area and I saw him laying there still out of it from the medicine I almost lost it.
I am so glad to say that he will be 5 Nov 23 and has been 100% healthy. Chat Icon

Seeing her for the first time in the NICU with the tube down her throat.

She was 7 weeks early and was rushed to the NICU a few minutes after she was born.

But, she was only on the vent for 24 hours then she was able to breathe on her own.

Re: what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

OMG! I am almost in tears reading all your posts! I have been blessed! The scariest moment for me so far has been when we had DS laying on a blanket on the floor to play, he was on his back when all of the sudden he started choking on his saliva and started crying, I assume b/c he was scared. So was I, but somehow remained calm (for him), picked him up layed him over my legs and patted him hard on his back. Poor guy! He was fine.

I think I am going to be a wreck when anything more serious happens!

When DD was less than 12 hours old being wisked away to the NICU, consulting with the NICU docs in the hallway of the maternity ward at 1:30 am, calling my husband at that hour and telling him to get back to the hospital and the reason why, signing the paperwork for her blood transfusion at 2am. All while still taking care and trying to be happy for DS.

Re: what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

When my DH took the gates from the top of the stairs to adjust them. I took DD up there after her nap and "forgot" there was no gate there. She had just turned 1 year. I went into our room to get something and when I turned around less than 60 seconds later she was sitting on the top step of the stairs getting ready to make her way downChat Icon I launched across the landing so fast with my heart literally in my mouth and grabbed her. I had to put her down once we got back in the room as my hands was shaking so hard I couldnt hold her.

Oh lordy be...I dont have just one...

Having the doctor come to us right after my eldest was born to say that there was something wrong with her...then finding out that she had Mosaic Down Syndrome.

When my exMIL called me up at work to say that after school care had lost her!!! She had gone home on the bus to an empty house and went to the neighbors BUT for 15 minutes my child was missing..

When the TV fell on the Twins. I went into the bedroom and the TV was ON ALEXIS' HEAD...(they were Ok just a broken finger)

When Alexis choked on a lifesaver..to this day I wont give the kids hard candy.

But really..when you look at it..Ive been a mom for almost 14 years. Ive had a lot more happy moments with them than scarey..

Re: what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

Being released from the hospital with DD having jaundice....only to be readmitted to another hospital for photolight therapy. They didn't even put my 3 day old in the NICU but in a regular room where there was just this incubator! No nurse in the room or anything...as if she was a 20 year old patient that could ring a bell for the nurses station. I stayed for 3 days on the pull out couch. But the worst was watching them put an IV in DD arm and having them do the heel stick blood reading on her every 6 hours for almost 3 days. Her heals looked like mince meat!

Aren't you glad you askedChat Icon

Re: what was your scariest moment since having your child/children??

Please I have so many. To start when my 9 yr old was a baby he had to have sergery (hydrocel and hernia) just to see him in the recovery room laying there so out of it I couldn't stop crying. Then when he was 5 I got a call at work saying he split open his eye (under it) from skate boarding, had to take him to the hospital and he needed stiches, then at 6yrs old while signing him up for baseball he fell on the radiator in the school and split the back of his head open(needed staples), and lets see with my 2yr old when he was 7mos he was sitting in his boster seat at the table without the tray on but buckled and somehow pushed off the table and the chair feel back and so did he. Took him to the dr they mis-diagnose him finding that out after they sent me home saying he was fine and then going to the hospital because my dh said he was acting funny and what do you know he had a hair line fx, I couldn't stop crying but he's fine, and now with my 8mo old I did a big no,no turned my back while he was in the tub and in seconds he feel out right on the floor huge bump but he was ok. And god only knows what the future will bring.

I've been blessed. The scariest thing for me was when DD was first born, she had jaundice. They put her in phototherapy in the hospital & seeing my daughter lying in the little box with the cover over her eyes was too much for me. I stood outside the nursery most of that day & just cried.

Wow! You all are a bunch of strong women! I have 2 very, very minor ones. I have been blessed.

- About 2 weeks ago I had DS sitting on my mom's kitchen floor (lenolium (sp?) and he fell backwards and BUMPED the back of his head on the fridge! I wanted to cry so bad.

- When he was a few months old he had a very bad congested cough. One night he was practically gasping for air. I went in got him, the vaporizer and a bottle and he went to bed with us propped up on his boppy!
So Scary! I really thought he was going to choke on his own saliva.Chat Icon
