i hate to ask this question but i keep wondering...DD is really sick for the very first time and wow it totally s*#ks! it's new to me-
anyway, beflore this illness DD was a phenomenal sleeper. self soothed, slept thru night, napped great. with the illness she is not letting us put her down which i understand. she is miserable. she is not napping at all-won't fall asleep and is crying in the middle of the night. i want ot be consistent and not overly spoil her and create bad habits but i know she is sick. Chat Icon she is 9 months old.
once she is better am i in for it when it comes to habits and sleeping? has this ever happened to your DC-did they change after getting sick and need to be "re-sleep trained" or did things return to normal?
for now i am just trying to keep her comfy but keep wondering if i am creating a monster for the future! TIA!

My DD recently got sick for the first time, too (she's also 9 mos.!) and I had the same concerns. I'm interested in BTDT replies as well!

My DD is 22 months, and the one time she got very sick (with the croup), I kept her in bed with me and my DH the entire week she was sick. I think it ended up being more for my comfort than hers, she was fine when I put her back in her crib. All kids are different, I'm sure there are other moms who will say their DC's had a tough time. But I think the most important thing right now is to comfort your DD, and if she wants to be with you, I don't see any real harm being done.
I hope poor baby feels better soon!! Chat Icon

When my daughter gets sick, I give her whatever she needs to feel better. I let her sleep with us, I give her ice pops, she lays around and watches tv, etc., and it has yet to form a bad habit. As soon as she's feeling better, it's back to business as usual.

I hate to say it - but it did create a bad habit for us. After about 2 months we got her back to sleeping through the night. But getting her to fall asleep in the crib is a nightmare.

She is 21 months

I don't worry about the future. I take care of the current situation. If DS is under the weather, I comfort him. I find that over time he goes back to his routine.

My DD is an excellent night sleeper, always has been since 6 weeks old. However when she has ear infections she can not sleep unless she's laying on me or in bed with me (now that I'm 8 months pregnant.)

Thankfully DD reacts very quickly to the antibotics and is generally back in her bed after 1 or 2 nights. It's never created a problem for us and she's had 10+ ear infections in her 16 months of life.

I'm all for giving them what they need when they don't feel well. I do it for DH why wouldn't I do it for DDChat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you...
I think this is VERY good advice! you are right-i shouldn't really be worrying about the future. i always get so crazy about things when i have no control over them really. i just need to focus on her getting well.
Thank you all for sharing!Chat Icon i really really appreciate it!
