What's the square footage of your MBR?

In doing our plans, the architect split our MBR into 2 regular sized bedrooms Chat Icon Chat Icon I called our contractor to say I was a bit concerned (he's made a couple of weird choices so far) and she said he probably assumed we wanted 2 rooms since our new MBR will be quite large. Quite honestly, I don't think it will be that big at all - a good size, but not huge. The new room will be about 275 sq ft plus our his/her closets. The rooms he suggested wouldn't even fit our furniture and we'd end up with a smaller room than we have now Chat Icon

ours is on the smaller side at 13x11', but it fits our queen bed, plus the rest of the furniture. Tell them what you want, not the other way around.

Oh absolutely - I was just curious where the confusion came from and how he couldn't even think we were looking to do that when we didn't discuss that. Also curious to know - if we needed to, or wanted to do that down the road (instead of putting another bedroom over the garage like we plan should we have a 3rd Chat Icon ) if the room size he suggested would be adequate. The biggest of the rooms he had was like 14 x 12 but an entire wall would be a closet so I guess you lose that space for arranging furniture.

Re: What's the square footage of your MBR?

*if* we get the townhouse our bedroom will be 13x14 - so 182sq ft....def on the small side - but it has a big closet and the master bath is really really nice - plus it has access to a cute little patio area outside....so i am ok with it....nervous about a king sized bed but i think it will be ok....

it's weird though b/c there are 2 bedrooms upstairs and one is the same size and one is actually larger! our future kids will have awesome rooms!

17'x17'. It's 289 sq feet. Although the ceilings are slanted, more on one side than the other. We lose a lot of walking space on the one side.

Oh Jessee I feel like you are having nothing but problems with this project.
You tell them what you want. you are paying them so they work for you not the other way around.

Re: What's the square footage of your MBR?

our bedroom area is roughly 16x12 (easily fitting a king sized bed/dresser/etc. without looking crowded). Our walk in/through closets and master bath are in an area of 18x8.

So all in all, the master suite is approx 335sqft.

Ours is the same and we have no issues, we only hae 1 double c loset so my DHs tall dressers is on the same wall as the closet.

However in our old house we had a wall of closets and the room was about the same size and we had no issues....

I think, especially in most older homes, 14x12 or about that size is average...

Ours is stupidly big - something like 440 sq ft. I have no idea what I'm going to put in that room!

do you guys with the 14x12 sized bedrooms have pictures? that would be pretty close to the size of ours in the townhouse - 14 x 13'4

Re: What's the square footage of your MBR?

I think ours is about 16 x 14 or something.

I think a BIG thing to take into consideration is how much furniture, clothes, and closet space you have.

If you have big closets, maybe you only need one dresser. If you are like us and have no closet space, you may need an extra furniture piece as well to hold all your junk.

Another thing to consider is actual wall space to fit furniture vs. doorways and windows. Our old bedroom was slightly larger but because of the positioning of closet doors and windows, we had less wall space to put our furniture, so it was more problematic for us. KWIM.

Good Luck!
