whats your opinion on someone that works 2 jobs
so i work full time and make a pretty nice salary but since ant and I want to buy a condo, house within the next 2 years, i was thinking of waitressing 2 nights a week.(im salaried so i cant work overtime at my job).
Ant is going to pick up a few hours at his job too. Our goal is to have 30% and closing when we find something
I told my mom this last night and she almost cried, saying i didnt go to college to wait on people So, as you can see shes a drama queen Then my i told my dad and he didn't like it either...
Anyway, im still going to do it, and not that this would sway my choice but when you here of a person that works more than 1 job, do you have a certain reaction? pity, relieved you only need to work 1 job, etc...

Usually two things: 1. "Man, I wish I had the energy to work two jobs!" 2. "They must live on Long Island"
I don't see anything wrong with working two jobs. If that's what you need/want to do, then there's nothing wrong with it.

More power to them!! I say do it while you're younger and have the energy to earn the extra cash now.
Good luck!

I don't have any reaction - seriously. I don't think poorly of them that's for sure! I guess my only reaction is -- Wow, what a hard working person.
I see nothing wrong with it. Good for you for wanting to work extra hard for something you really want.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. You can make a lot of money waiting tables or bartending.
My brother's roommate a few years ago was a PT bartender a few nights at Ruth's Chris in Garden City while she was going to grad school at Columbia. She made enough in tips working TH-Su nights to pay for her tuition, rent, books, etc.

Re: whats your opinion on someone that works 2 jobs
I have so much respect and admiration for someone who works two jobs because he/she wants something or is working towards something rather than just working the bare minimum to get by and looking for handouts.
It's tough on LI... but I really respect you for working hard to get what you want.

I would look at you as a person who is ambitious and will do whatever it takes to get what she wants! I would never take it in any negative way!
I commend you for it!!

Re: whats your opinion on someone that works 2 jobs
i have 3 jobs so if people take pity on someone with 2 then they must cry for me!
luckily i have the flexibility to work my own schedule on all 3 so i can pretty much do them all simultaneously.
i would never look down upon someone who had goals and was working hard to achieve them. thats how i see the situation.

sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. ppl who have opinions about it--well they aren't gonna pay your bills.
nothing wrong with having 2 jobs, NYC and LI are just ridiciliously expensive places to live.

I say go for it. there is nothing wrong with working 2 jobs. do it while you can! I am almost done with grad school and I work FT and make a good salary, but also salaried. When grad school is over i would like to work 2 days a week to help pay off my student loans.

I feel the same, and I used to work two jobs and I was too exhausted, so I stopped.

Re: whats your opinion on someone that works 2 jobs
I do it - I'm working my old job 2 nights a week, and I'm starting up Saturday mornings right after Christmas.
Rich teaches and tutors for extra money.
We have the same goals you too, and unfortunately, I don't think that can be done only working 1 job.

I say go for it. I wish I had the energy now to work 2 jobs!
I tended bar for over a decade and made more money doing that than any job related to my college degree
BTW: I think given the current mortgage mess that many people are in having only put down 5%, I think you are VERY smart for wanting to have 30% down

Re: whats your opinion on someone that works 2 jobs
I worked as a waitress for years, I don't think it's a job for the uneducated. I say go for it- it's worth a shot- I don't have any opinion on people who work more than one job. You gotta do what you gotta do. I wish I could have gotten another job this holiday season, just to save up some extra cash because I could. But it turns out, being prego made that pretty difficult.

Re: whats your opinion on someone that works 2 jobs
I have a second job, when my parents found out that I was looking for one, they weren't thrilled about it. I don't know why it bothered them, but I needed to do it to save for our wedding and a house.
Now I have been working a second job for over a year. They are used to it and my mom sure enjoys the discount that she gets.
I have saved SO much more money working a second job b/c my pay from it goes directly into savings. Now I plan on quitting before the summer.

Iv'edone it for a long time. Right now is the only time I am not and I miss the "second job". I like to work. Extra money or no extra money, I like working, although I am sure this will change once I have children.

Re: whats your opinion on someone that works 2 jobs
My DH work 2 jobs. He's gone from 5:00am till 11:00PM. Neither one of us are happy about it. But, when your working towards a goal, you do what you have to do.

both my DH and I did it for a while when we first bought our house. We both worked full time and then we worked at a catering hall together - I waitressed and he bar tended. We figured that at least we would get to see each other there!
