We stopped them for a while, but are considering going back.

I would not think poorly of anyone who worked a second job. I waitressed during the first year I was a teacher and newly on my own. It's a sacrifice many people have to make when they are just starting out, regardless of their education level.

I think its just fine. I was a Naval Officer, then went into contracting and did Reserves p/t. In order to pay for my wedding in cash I waited tables 3-4 nights week for about 5 months. I wasn't above it. I needed the money and didn't want to have debt. I worked at a Morton's since they were only open for dinner, which was perfect for my schedule, and it was right down the street from my offices. I made good money at my job, plus my reserve salary, but I had short term goal to pay for some pretty hefty items for the wedding so I took the waitressing gig. It was worth it to me. At some very high end restaurants (much, much more expensive that Morton's) the waiters make VERY good money. Besides to look down on someone is wrong to begin with. (I would tell your Mom that unless she wants to give you the money than she need not judge about taking a waitressing job.)

I have worked up to three jobs at one time. I also have a college education, so what does that say about me???

I worked f/t and waitressed 2-3 nights a week until 2 years ago. DH also delivered pizza as a second job. We are doing great financialy and honestly it is because of those 2nd jobs. We would have never been able to pay for our wedding, save as much of a downpayment, pay our student loans, without those jobs.

I don't have any reaction - seriously. I don't think poorly of them that's for sure! I guess my only reaction is -- Wow, what a hard working person.

I see nothing wrong with it. Good for you for wanting to work extra hard for something you really want.

I've never thought of it as a negative that someone had a second job....and I never heard anyone else say that they think it is a negative for someone to have a second job. Is it the fact that it's a waitressing job that makes your parents think it's a negative?

I worked two jobs for over a year and had my college classes stacked up on Tues & Thurs only so I could work both jobs. It was a negative for me only in the sense that I had to get things done ASAP (i.e. term papers) since there may not have been time later to fit them in. I should add that the habit of getting things done as soon as assigned led to me never pulling an all nighter in college or grad school and it's still a habit that I have now.

I did it! I worked 2 jobs up until 2 weeks before DS was born.
I was a FT Day Care Teacher and worked PT at night and on Sat. mornings at Huntington Learning Center.
Nothing wrong with it. I knew we were going to need the money and worked hard.

There is Nothing wrong with it at all.
Go for it.

Nothing wrong with it. I think I would feel bad for someone with a very undesirable (to me) second job like cleaning toilets or something, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I work f/t and teach 2 MBA classes a semester as a second job.

Always have and I think always will..even with a DD.


I dont like to struggle..I want what most have esp for my DD now.

I have almost always had two jobs. i dont think i could just function with the free time i would have if i did just have one job. but when people do find out i have two jobs and work pretty much 7 day a week they freak and they dont belive how someone could do it. but it can be done. the money from my second job i have been using for goceries, gas, it definetly helps around the holidays with gifts too. also spending money for clothes and saving up for vacations and other things.
i say it cant hurt to try it out. the worst thing that could happen is that you dont like having two jobs and you quit the second job. good luck!!!

however i do love my second job and i have been there for over 10 years that might have soemthing to do with it too.
