When did you start reading books to your LO?
I am just curious, my DS is almost 8 months old and we haven't really started to read to him yet...TIA!

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
We read on and off from when he was a newborn but he was never into it. It was more us reading to ourselves. Since he turned 12 months he has been very into books, especially board books so he can turn the page. At 13.5 months I would say it is his #1 thing and he is constantly handing me a book to read him. He will point to something and I describe it.
I say why not start now and eventually your LO will get into it.

Honestly, since day 1...I know she didn't understand or even know what the heck is going on but purely for the sound of my voice. Plus it gave me something 'to do' with her

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
Tonight DD was screaming her head off (overtired) when we went to put her in bed and I pulled up Winnie the Pooh on my ipad and just started reading to her. She was MESMERIZED. I actually had started reading her the book (the physical book) last week when we were playing but tonight's reaction was amazing. She just listened to me completely, smiling and enthralled, until I finished the chapter. Then I kissed her goodnight and she went to sleep.
She's 6 1/2 months.
I don't know if I'll do it every day, but it was nice to see how quickly she calmed down just from reading to her!
DH was reading to DD every night or every other night when she was very little but he hasn't been doing it regularly.

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
once the child is able to 'sit still' and enjoy it. em has always 'read' books - once we started reading them to her. she'd move her finger along the words (like we did to show her 'how' to read)....and babble. Now - she looks sooo forward to us reading her books. We read her 3 books every night before bed. 2 stay the same (here we go steelers ((oy)) and blues clues nursery rhymes) and she picks the 3rd.

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
We've been doing it here and there since DD was born. She's only 3.5 months so I doubt she gets much out of it, but I look at it like it's never too early to start. Sometimes she'll scream before the book is over (we only do short stories), other times she seems to enjoy it and stares at the pictures. Reading is so good for children, I don't think you can go wrong with it.

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
since he was born
I would put him in swing and read to him, I was reading healthy sleep habits happy child, figured it was good for him to hear me speak and not just ignore him and read it
Around 3m, I started reading board books. Peekaboo books went over really well, and anything with pictures of real babies.
By 8m, he was pretending to read and turning pages himself.
He's 16m we ask him what book he wants to read, we read it and leave it in the crib. He's actually "reading" a book in bed right now we already said night night 20 minutes ago. He's babbling and reading.

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
Since day one
Her first day home from the hospital I read her ALL of the books that we already had for her. I continued to do that every day until I went back to work. Then, I cut it down to 4 or 5 a day but every single day.
She really loves it now and pretend reading is one of her favorite things to do

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
We started pretty much right away with picture books and touch and feel ones and then around 4 months moved up to ones were we would sit him on our lap or put him in the bouncer and read to him.
Now at 10 months, he grabs them from the bookcase himself and just looks & turns pages. We try to read to him everyday now around bedtime.
IMO, its never too early. It's good for them to hear your voice, associate pictures with words, etc..

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
Been doing it since DS was 2 or 3 months and he just now @ 8 months learned to turn the pages.
Today, I read him a touch & feel book that I've been reading him since he was born and i got to a page with a picture of a fish where I always say "fishie....blub blub" and today he beat me to it and said BLUB BLUB! Made me so happy!

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
From her first day home. Sometimes I even just read her the mail or from a magazine...figure what I am reading isn't as important as the reading itself.

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
Since birth for us as well. I have a pic of me reading to DD at almost a week old. DS is three months and has been participating in DD's story time from the beginning. Now he gets his own story time right before bed.

Re: When did you start reading books to your LO?
in utero! but I'm a first grade teacher, so picture books are my life. We read all day still. DS is 10 months and picks up books on his own and flips through the pages himself
