When did you stop waking up your NB to feed?
Sometimes it seems like DS can sleep all day until we wake him. Then there will be times where he cluster feeds every hour. I'm tempted to just feed him when he wakes up on his own but DH thinks we should wake him up every 3 hours if he doesn't wake up on his own.

Honestly, I never woke to feed. I figured if he is hungry, he will wake up and let me know.

Same here! I never wake him to eat. They will wake up on their own when they are hungry. Enjoy the quiet time!

Re: When did you stop waking up your NB to feed?
my dr told me to wake up DD every 2-3 hours during the day and i think I fed her then and he told me just to let her sleep at night.

I let her sleep at night (although she wakes up pretty much every 2 hours on her own and then is awake for most of that time - totally has days and nights mixed up), but I am waking her up if it goes over 3 hours during the day. My boobs can't take any longer than that!

Re: When did you stop waking up your NB to feed?
After our 2 week appointment we finally got the OK not to wake to feed from our ped. DD had lost a lot of weight the first week and we had to keep waking to feed her because of that but once she passed her birth weight the ped said it was ok to let her sleep and feed on demand. It was like a world of difference!
Why don't you call your ped and ask? Then you'll know an "official" answer so your DH will be ok with it.

Re: When did you stop waking up your NB to feed?
UGH I have never heard "never wake a sleeping baby" until LIF - I mean obv. I've heard the expression...but I couldn't disagree with it more. I'm with your DH...I woke every 4 hours to feed during the day at newborn stage and DD slept 6 hour stretches at night since the 1st night we brought her home. By 6 weeks old she was doing 8 hours straight at night. She was sleeping 12 hours straight by 12 weeks old.
It's just the craziest thought to me - if you let your LO sleep all day - they will be up more at night - it's common sense! This actually gets me so fired up b/c it is one thing I just do not understand!!!
Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
ETA: after the first 2 weeks probably - DD woke up like clockwork during the day every 4 hours to feed...so I wasn't even really waking her anymore. Babies crave a schedule...if you stick to one they will adapt to it.

Re: When did you stop waking up your NB to feed?
At our second weight check which was probably a week and 1/2 from DD's birth, the doctor said I didn't need to wake her anymore because she was gaining well. Before that, I wasn't waking her after 2-3 hrs, only if it had been 4 hours since her last feeding. This was hardly an issue during the day. She would wake to feed, but DD has always been a good night sleeper.
