When you are at a red light.......
You know when you are at a red light...and the car in front of you inches forward even though they can't really go anywhere because the light is red....... do you inch forward as well?
I totally do.. Sometimes I even start the trend. I'll inch forward a bit and then look in the rear view mirror and notice everyone behind me is playing 'catch up'
Anyone else inch forward meaninglessly at a red light?

Re: When you are at a red light.......
The only time I do that is when I'm listening to a station that is losing reception and I want to get it to come in better. 92.3 and 104.1 always do that.
But as of next week, I'll have XM radio so I think that will be a thing of that past!

Not really, if someone has made a right on red and it leaves a large opening in the stack of traffic I pull forward but otherwise I prefer to have some room around me.

Not necessarily. If the sky is not visible (heavy trees, or if you're under an overpass) you wont get reception. Terrestrial radio has better reception in that regard.
BTW, from one tech geek to another, if you think that you would prefer Sirius better, TSS-Radio.com has headunit conversion kits; I got one for my Accord and I installed it in about 30 minutes. I'm sure you could do it easily if you wanted to. If you're interested let me know and I can find the info you need.

Not really, although if I look in my review mirror and find that the person is literally up my arse, I do move forward a bit to give us some space. Except person behind me usually creeps right back up.....

Crap. Thanks for the tip on the XM. I never realized that might be an issue! I guess I'll keep the CD player loaded just in case.

agreed. It ticks me off to no end. I was taught to see the bottom of the tires on the car in front of me. Pulling forward just makes you stuck if they don't move or stall or etc.
I HATE not seeing the car behind me's headlights. If I cant see them, then you're too close ... back that crap up!

Re: When you are at a red light.......
Usually I dont. More-so because usually when I do inch up, it's because the guy in back of me is basicly in my back seat to begin with and I just want some space from them (cause you know the second that light turns green he will LITERALLY be in my backseat).
TBH, it annoys me when I just inch up slightly (for the reason stated above) and for every inch I move, the guy in back moves 2 inches. It's probably uneeded wear-and-tear on brake pads to do it for any other reason. You aren't getting anywhere any faster by doing it.

This made me think about something that happened a couple of weeks ago. Someone in front of me (we were waiting at a light on sunrise hwy service road) was did that as the light was changing and he/she was all raring to go when the light turned green and they almost got creamed by a cement truck that blew through the light!!! That truck had to be going 50 miles per hour (in a 40)!!! Would have torn that little car to pieces if they T-boned! Don't start moving until traffic is stopping in the other directions! You never know who is going to blow through the light!

Re: When you are at a red light.......
I do when I know that the light has sensors and will change if it can feel a car on them, b/c I have stopped before the sensor. If I am in a line and people are moving up I will too. Also, if I am in a turning lane with a lot of people behind me and I see the line start to go into the main part of the road I will move up so that last car can inch in and not get hit.

Same here with the sensors. If I am at a light that is so long or I am by myself at the light I will inch up little bits in order to activate them but other than that I don't inch at all.
I hate the ones that keep inching then when the light turns green they are slow as molasses to step on the gas. What was the point of inching up?

Re: When you are at a red light.......
I usually only inch for the sensors as well. Sometimes when I'm being really impatient I may inch our of frustration. Usually I try to leave space between me and the person in front of me though, because too many times with my first car, I would break down at a light and then watch the person behind me have to wait for people to move so he could back up to get around me. I definately learned from that one!

Re: When you are at a red light.......
There's another scenario when I'll do it I just thought of. If there's an entrance to a parking lot or something behind me and the car behind me is too far forward to allow someone to turn in. Then I'll inch to give them room to turn. Or if someone's rear end is out in traffic.
What I've also seen is someone in the front raring to go when the light turns green. When the ARROW goes green, they don't pay attention and go straight, not realizing it wasn't a green for them, and almost causing an accident with the people turning.
