When you started giving DC solids...
DS has been eating cereal for about a week now. He is definitely not eating more than a tablespoon - I barely got him to eat 2 teaspoons today. Did your DC start off eating a decent amount??I gave him rice for a few days, now I am doing oatmeal, what do you recommend I do next - cereal with fruit, just fruit, barley, or mixed cereal????
Also, when did you start giving them solids 2x a day??
Did you give it to DC as a separate meal, or in the middle of a bottle?? I was doing it in the middle of a bottle, but today I gave it to him in the beginning which seemed to work ok, but he got very fussy after about 1/2 of the cereal, so I switched to his bottle, then finished the cereal at the end of the bottle. I just feel like I am doing something wrong here....it seems weird to stop a bottle and give him cereal....any thoughts/experiences????? Thanks so much!!!

Re: When you started giving DC solids...
I started cereal at 4 months. we started with rice. I gave her a tablespoon to start with and then I slowly increased it. I waited 5 days to make sure she had no allergies and then I went to oatmeal, waited, barley, waited, and then mixed. I think I started giving it to her in the am and pm right away. She loves it! I EBF so I give her the cereal in the am about an hour after her first feeding. We started fruit about a month later. I mixed the fruit in with the cereal in the am and pm. We started veggies at 6 months and I give her those for lunch. Hope that helps! I don't think there is a right or wrong way. Whatever works for your baby! But cereal should replace a bottle at this point from what I understand. However his intake of the bottle may decrease.

Re: When you started giving DC solids...
We started with a tablespoon of cereal and added one more each day. Once I got to 4 tablespoons, I started feeding her 2X a day (2 in the morning and 2 at night). We did rice cereal and then oatmeal (which she didn't like at all). So I went back to the rice cereal and then this weekend started Apples. I did the 2 tablespoons of cereal and then a little bit of apples the 1st day. The second day I did a little bit more apples and the 2 tablespoons of cereal. Now we are up to a 1/2 container of fruit 2x a day with the cereal.
My DD generally eats every 3 hours, so I give her the solids about 2 hours after she drinks a bottle, so that she's not starving, but still hungry enough to eat. I found when I tried to feed her the solids when she was due for a bottle, she was so hungry that she would become frustrated that I wasn't feeding her fast enough. She usually drinks a little bit less with the next bottle after the feeding, but it's usually only an ounce or so less.
