When your water breaks?
Just curious for when the time comes.....
when you break your water....AS long as it is clear and not infected, generally how much tim do we have to get to the hospital? I thought in my birthing class she said 1 hour or so.
I can't remember.
Like do I have time to take a shower and blow dry my hair (which would take a total of 90 minutes to shower and dry hair) or is it like get over right away.
We are about 20 min from hospital.
Please excuse this question.....I know its stupid, but something I had on my mind!

Re: When your water breaks?
You are supposed to deliver within 24 hours of your water breaking. Mine broke, I called the doctor, then DH to tell him to come home, and got into the shower. We were at the hospital within an hour of my water breaking. We also live about 20 minutes from the hospital. You should also know if you are group B+ because they will need to hook you up to antibiotics asap if that is the case.

Re: When your water breaks?
I think it really depends. My OB said if it happened in the middle of the night I could wait until the morning to call him as long as it was clear and normal. That said, my water broke and four hours later my contractions were so bad I went to the hospital and DS was born less than two hours later.
I also wanted to say that at the point my water broke my contractions were too bad to take a shower or get ready in any way - b/c they were too close together however, this is not true for everyone!
I totally envisioned taking a shower, putting make up on and looking normal when I got to the hospital - lets just say I couldn't even brush my teeth But my labor progressed fast - this is not the norm however, there is no norm when it comes to this stuff!

Re: When your water breaks?
When my water broke it would have been useless to take a shower. It just kept coming and coming and coming out. Seriously.....it never stopped so I never felt "clean". My Dr. told me to come to the hospital right away. I got there around 11:30. I had already been scheduled for a c-section for the following week so I knew I would be getting one once I got there. Needless to say I didn't get a c-section until 1:30 the next day. I never dialated and never had contractions (or at least noticeable ones). So you do have time I guess but I would rather just get there just in case.

Re: When your water breaks?
I called the dr when my water broke and they told me to go to the hospital pretty much right then and there. well i'm obnoxious and took a shower first then finished packing my bag. i got to the hospital about an hour and 15 minutes later. I went from absolutely closed 2 days before to 4cm the minute i got to the hospital. you can totally take a shower and then go, but just to warn you, it doesn't stop going! my water broke and i lost A LOT of it at home. when they checked me when I got there, when she took her hand out, I sprayed water all over her pants and shoes (how embarrassing!!!) and it just kept going until probably 5 hours later haha right before i was gonna push. but it did make me feel a little cleaner taking a shower. i don't know if i would go all out and blow out your hair, because if you're like me, i was sweating like a pig from pushing (and i barely sweat!!)

Re: When your water breaks?
My water broke at 5:22am. I called my doctor and then took my time getting ready - took a shower, did my hair, packed my bag (I was almost a month early so it wasn't ready), DH had some breakfast - then we drove to the hospital which is about 45 minutes away. We got to the hospital around 7:20am, saw the doctor close to 9am, started pitocin around 10am, had epidural around 2pm, had baby at 3:28pm.
