Where does your DC eat their meals
And, are they a good eater?
Meaning, do they have to sit in front of the TV?
Do you eat together as a family?
Are they at the family table?
Are they still in a highchair?
Any details at all.
Right now Jack sits at his little table in front of the TV - and it's just not working since he doesn't eat anything.
I'm thinking if I should start feeding him at the kitchen table - with no TV on.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
we start out at table...then he brings what's left to his table in living room and watches tv.
he is the slowest eater...one grain of rice at a time. but will finish plate eventually.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
Breakfast they usually eat with the tv on while I'm showering.
Lunch we eat together. The tv is on but we're usually talking over it.
Dinner we eat together. No tv.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
Charlotte (is 16m) and has always eaten in her highchair, at the table with us, as a family. She tries what we're eating - if she wants more, great, if not, I will make her something else to eat (this is typically just dinnertime as she will always eat what I eat for breakfast & lunch).
She is a good eater...she will try things more than once (last night she tried stuffed artichoke for the first time!) and rarely, if ever, refuses something to eat. Thankfully.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
Honestly, lately, whatever works...even if it means eating in front of the TV (which is the most effective these days). I think this is such a difficult age for them with the eating...what to eat and where to eat.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
every which way from sunday!
She used to eat in a little chair thing in the living room where we fed her while the TV was on.
Then we got her a highchair. She takes her ‘after-school’ snack in front of the TV.
We eat dinner at the table with her in her high chair near us. The TV is on for us, not for her (her back is to it). After she’s done we turn her around to watch a little TV while we finish up. Then she’s out and about.
At my Aunts she’s in the little chair/table thing attached to a normal chair. She eats in the dining room where there is no TV anyway. And no view of one.
Sometimes my aunt will pull that chair in to the living room for snacks.
Out and about she eats at the table with us in a lil phil & ted chair (me too chair) which she loves! Me Too Chair
So all of the above hehe

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
DS is not a fabulous eater (I just responded to your other post!) Breakfast is usually in the high chair and is not usually successful unless is only fruit. Lunch is usually eating while playing with the TV on in the family room. Dinner is usually in the highchair without the TV on with only me (since DH doesn't get home early enough.) If it's not working, the tv goes on. Sometimes DH will finish dinner with him when he gets home. If we still feel enough hasn't been eaten, we'll feed him bites while he plays .

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
Mealtime is important for me. They eat at the table, in the kitchen, in a seat no questions asked and no negotiations on that. No TV. No separate meals (99% of the time). That's just how I like it and I want it to be. We eat as a family--which most weeknights turns out to be me and them...DH too when he's not working/on the weekends when we're home. As for the TV--personally I would never use that as a tool--they'll eat eventually, but it might not be so easy to give up the TV. Also, I'd rather not make an association between TV and food. But, maybe that's just me...to each his own, KWIM?
They are good eaters if we're having pasta, otherwise, eh. But typically, I make them try a certain number (and I mean usually this is like 3 bites) of bites of whatever it is we're eating. I mean if they're going to gag on asparagus or something, then I won't force the issue. Also, they have one cookie each around 1 hour after dinner...if they don't eat an "appropriate" amt. of dinner, no cookie. When they're done with dinner, they can go watch a show while DH and I (or just I) finish in peace.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
DD is young but became an awful eater lately so I literally stick her in front of the tv to distract her so she'll eat..I hate starting this habit sooo early but she is really having food issues and would rather have her watch tv than to not eat fruits and veggies...

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
DH and I were raised on family dinners at the table w/ no tv so that's what we do w/ DS. He's almost 21 mos - not a big TV watcher. He is a good eater most days. I noticed that if he eats a lot for lunch, he doesn't eat as much dinner. My my house he eats in a bosster seat, S2BX house he has the high chair - either way he is fine.
I will tell you this: We went to my sisters house and toasted something. DS thought that was very fun. At the time he didn't eat meat. I put some meat on his fork and we did "meat cheers" and then ate the meat. He liked that and we still do "meat cheers".

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
my girls are great eaters. They have a small table they sit at and eat. Then when they are done they clean up after themselves. The only problem they have while eating is hoever finishes frst tries to steal the other's food and then a fight happens

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
My DD is a fabulous eater and my DS is more picky. MY DD just turned one and she eats in her highchair, and my DS just turned 2 and he eats in his booster seat. Sometimes we all sit together and eat as a family and sometimes my DC just eat together at the table. When we are not eating together as an entire family I put my DD and DS's seats facing each other.
The only time they watch TV when they eat is when they are eating snacks. I also have a small table and chair in the living room and sometimes my DS sits there to eat his snacks, and a couple of times he ate his breakfast and dinner at this table.

Jacob sits with us...briefly...and then gets up. We dont let him eat in front of the TV. If he doesnt want to eat anymore, he has to stay in the kitchen with us.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
DD is 18 months. She eats in a high chair at the table. Most nights we eat together, no TV on when we eat. Once in awhile I will feed her by herself if I can't figure out what to make for dinner. Sometimes when I give her a snack, she will sit at her little play table (which is right off the dining room)

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
We always eat in our kitchen at the counter top (not an eat in kitchen, so no table) or at the dining room table (very informal)... I rarely let my kids eat outside the kitchen unless its a small snack.
I do not allow the TV on while they eat (it's in the living room, but you can see and hear it from the kitchen, so its off).
The only time we eat as a family is Sunday breakfast and dinner each night (although DH is never home for dinner, but I always sit and eat with them). But when I they eat breakfast or lunch, it's at the table.
They are good eaters, always have been. But it doesn't mean they don't have times where they don't eat at all or refuse to try something new. That just goes with toddler territory.
ETA: my kids can be put in a trance by the TV. So if they had a meal in front of them while watching TV, it would never work! They would be too distracted by the TV to want to eat!

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
DD#1 eats breakfast and dinner at the table as a family - even DD#2 sits even though she doesn't eat with us. Lunch however I do put her in front of something only b.c I'm usually alone and the baby is fussing and I don't get to eat if we eat at the dining table for lunch and I'm fighting with her to sit down. Funny part is often eats a better lunch than breakfast and dinner b.c she eats and runs for those meals. We are trying to work on getting her to sit more as she is not a good sitter. DD sits in a booster seat now we no longer use a high chair, once we took the high chair away we lost her (she would sit for a long time in the HC even when she was done eating) now she eats and wants out immediately.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
At the Kitchen Table. DS is 2-1/2.
And, are they a good eater? Yes
Meaning, do they have to sit in front of the TV? We can see the TV in the family room from the kitchen. Sometimes we put it on for him, other times we don't.
Do you eat together as a family? Sometimes. My DH works late so dinner is usually just DS and me. I always sit with him until he is done. Generally he eats breakfast alone. (I'm getting ready. DH plays on the computer. This drives me crazy. But I'm trying to pick my battles.)
Are they at the family table? See above
Are they still in a highchair? Booster seat for over a year now. He can almost sit in the regular chair, however, I find that he doesn't seem to eat as well if he's in it.
We don't let him eat in the family room as a regular thing. Our house rule is that he has to either eat in the kitchen or he can sit in the doorway between the kitchen and family room (there is a small drop-off). This is usually for a snack.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
Since we still live in an apartment and have just a galley kitchen with a high table and two bar stools....this location is out of the question for our 7 month old DS.
SInce he is still in a high chair and dependent on us to feed him, I am currently doing all his mealtimes in the living. I sit on the couch and he is in his high chair. At the end of the feeding, (which is a very short amount of time b/c DS is an VERY good eater), I turn the high chair toward the television and turn the TV on to channel 123. He sits there and digests for about 20 minutes. During that time, I can do dish's and prepare for whatever is next...bath, bed, laundry.
This i swhat works for us.....but really do wish I had a kitchen. I am all about routine and consistancy!

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
Week day breakfast-DD and I eat together are the kitchen table (DH is upstairs taking shower). Sometimes Blue Clues is on, but I try to get her through breakfast before the TV is on.
Weekend breakfast-first breakfast is at the kitchen table if I am up with her. If it's DH-it's where ever the heck she wants to be and is usually in front of the TV.
First breakfast is usually just a cereal bar or piece of fruit. We usually have a second breakfast around 10 (when DH and I are hungry) and that is at the kitchen table and it's pancakes, waffles, eggs, etc and we all eat together no TV.
For lunch-at day care, it's at the table with all her friends. On the weekends, it's at the kitchen table with us or sometimes she is eating and we just sit with her. No TV.
Dinner-At the table with us, she eats what we eat. No TV.
Snacks are different. If it's goopy, it's at the table. If it's a snack trap cup or a cookie I'll let her walk around with it. However, I would like to break this habit too and just have all food at the table.
ETA: she is out of the high chair and just sits in a regular chair at the table, she won't use her booster any more.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals
First attempt is always in his highchair.
If we ask if he wants to eat, he actually goes up to his highchair and says "sit".
Usually he will eat there. if he is being particularly fussy, we will let him eat while watching TV.
okay, I'm lying. maybe half the time.

Same here. A meal can take upwards of 1.5 hours and still not be completely eaten. I don't get it
