Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

And, are they a good eater? NOPE...he rarely eats. He had 1/2 a yogurt today and its 2:15 and I consider that a success. Yesterday he had a handful of fruit loops and two bites of chicken all day. We have a nutritionist who comes ( b/c he is so skinny) and she said he is 100% normal, 2-3 yr olds barely eat and its ok. They wont starve no matter how much we worry ( and I do worry) .

Meaning, do they have to sit in front of the TV? No way, My DH like sthe TV on and I hate it so its forbidden to be on in our house during dinner ( its on a lot during the day though, as background noise)

Do you eat together as a family? Yes every night.

Are they at the family table? Yes

Are they still in a highchair? No, a regular chair like us.

Doesnt seem to matter where he eats though, he just doesnt eat.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

All of my children eat their meals at the table. We eat dinner as a family every night. I have a "no food outside of the kitchen" rule in my house.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

I was raised on family dinners @ the table - since being married to DH, unfortunately we eat in front of the TV - I DO NOT want that for Sean.

Sena is only 6 months - so right now it's easy - I feed him in his highchair in the Dining Room away from the TV -

DH and I get home so late from work I doubt we'll ever be able to do the whole 'family dinner' thing during the week - but I'm going to keep my kid from starting at that TV for as long as possible -

And, are they a good eater?

Yes good eaters...

Meaning, do they have to sit in front of the TV?

Absolutely not, we don't really watch tv during the day. TV generally comes out at Bedtime for DH and I to watch...

Do you eat together as a family?

Absolutely, very important! I am a SAHM and DC and I eat Breakfast and Lunch together and Supper of course with DH.

Are they at the family table?

Absolutely all of us...

Are they still in a highchair?

Not is a long time... But it was pressed right up against the table for all meals.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

Breakfast and dinner in her highchair, at the table. Breakfast with me, dinner usually before daddy gets home.

Lunch - wherever we happen to be.

She is a pretty good eater, yes...

Still in a highchair, though I think we can move him to a booster soon.

We do not eat together--DH gets home too late. I eat something with DS most nights then have the bulk of the meal with DH. Though lately DH doesn't eat with me somuch, so I may switch things around and eat with DS. It's not an arrangement I like--I think we should all eat together, but it's not possible.

DH is a very picky eater. No veggies, very little meat, no eggs. His main source of protein is from dairy.

No TV while he's eating, though we do sing songs or put on music.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

Jared sometimes eats in his room on the floor. We have a small snack tray for him. Other times, he will sit with us at the dinner table in a regular chair.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

We all eat at the kitchen table, not always together though. Sometimes I sit with DD while she eats, sometimes one of us is eating with her, and sometimes we all eat at the same time.

She started using a booster seat about 4 months ago but she decided she is a big girl now and doesn't need it anymore, so she just sits in a regular chair, kneeling most of the time.

Food is only eaten in the kitchen.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

DS went through a phase where he didn't want to eat, so we put the TV on to distract him. now that he feeds himself, the TV is off and he's in his high chair in the dining room.

because of when we get home and when he goes to bed, he eats first, and DH and i eat after he's in bed. DH and i always eat together. when DS is older, and up later, he'll eat with us. DH and i always eat at the dining room table and so will DS.

i think the no TV rule is a good one to start Chat Icon i wish i had advice for you on the food issue though! Chat Icon

Breakfast is on the go. I usually give him his milk and whatever and he grazes.

Lunch-he sits at our coffee table which has a place mat on it and eats there.

Dinner-Same. Unless it is grilled cheese, b/c I usually make myself one and he wants to sit on the couch with me. It's cuteChat Icon

Up until about a month or two ago, he would eat lunch and dinner in the high chair still.

ETA-DUH when Chris is home (either 2 or 3 nights a week) we do eat together at the table. He doesn't eat any better then. But he likes to hang out with us

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

99% of the time she eats in the living room.

with the TV on. she will pick up her nuggets or waffles or whatever and eat as she plays.

not the best situation, but I need her to eat more then I need her to sit, kwim?

when she gets older, and I am home for dinner more then twice a week, we will eat at the table with no tv.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

are they a good eater?
*I consider DD to be a pretty good eater. Is she picky, sure. But she eats 3 meals a day and snacks a lot. Will she always finish a meal...not always, but for the most part...she's consitent with 3. We're getting her to "try" things right now and allowing her to tell us yes or no AFTER she tastes them.

do they have to sit in front of the TV?
*We eat in front of the tv...but it makes no difference if it's on or not. She'll sit at the table with or without it.

Do you eat together as a family?
*yes...unless DH is working OT

Are they at the family table?
*no....haven't established that "rule" yet, but we'll get there. It's very important to me as every night at 6pm I sat with my family...so I'm definitely planning on instilling that.

Are they still in a highchair?
*Yes. But if she's at the table, regular chair.

we do not eat with the tv on. ever.

we eat as a family at the kitchen table with DS in his booster chair. i hate our highchair so i rarely use it.

DS is a very good eater. he eats pretty much whatever we give him. he has his moments, but overall, he eats whatever we eat.

Dinner we eat as a family, at the table (landon in high chair), no TV.

Landon almost always watches TV with Breakfast and sometimes with lunch. But he sits in his highchair.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

My DH works nights so its me, my almost 3 year old and my 1 1/2 year old. We have alwyas eaten together in the kitchen. They eat in their booster seats and I eat right with them. No t.v ever ever ever!!! From day one I made all my own baby food, introduced tofu, beans, lentils, all healthy food right away and Ive never had a problem thank the lord. I have surround sound in my house so we listen to music sometimes classical, sometimes toddler tunes, party favorites, disco, etc. we sing and talk and they eat everything and anythign almost every meal, everyday. If they dont eat they dont eat. My DH watches them during the day while I work and he does the same for breakfast and lunch and he never has a porb either. Bad habits are hard to brake so I never started them. With another on the way Ill do the same and keep my fingers crossesd

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

Gracie is 2 & has always been an excellent eater; but she still prefers to sit in her high chair; or else we have her sit in the high chair & pull it up to our kitchen table. She usually eats b4 us though (530) & breakfast she eats at either my moms or Ray's mom's in the am (in her booster or in the big girl chair at the kitchen).

I only put her in front of the TV in the am IF I'm pumping or nursing Jack. DH does not like that habit though

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

We sit as a family in our dining room. No TV. Mads is in her booster seat at the table- Eliza in her high chair.

Madelyn more often then not will tell us "All done" and push her plate away as soon as DH and I sit down at the table. Most nights she'll eat Cheerios for dinner. Except for spaghetti night. That child can eff up some spaghetti.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

DD is almost 20 months and eats in her high chair in dining room, no tv. She eats really early (5ish) so typically I don't eat with her. She's a pretty good eater but I find that she is better when we do eat together. For example, last night, I gave her a meal she never had before. When I gave it to her, she passed the plate right back to me. Wouldn't even put it to her mouth and asked for cookies and applesauce. I denied her and after a little bit of trying to bargain with her, I just made myself a plate and sat down. Before, I was even done cutting mine up, she was gobbling it down. She did this one other time with meatloaf and she's a great eater at daycare so I think she just likes company, especially when its something unfamiliar.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

are they a good eater?
Yes and no. There are days when he has a huge appetite and others where he wants to eat nothing. I don't stress about it because he does eat when he is hungry. For example this morning he ate 3.5 blueberry waffles but he basically skipped dinner last night b/c he was not hungry. I give him what we eat for dinner but I always make sure to make at least one part of the meal as something I know he will eat.

Meaning, do they have to sit in front of the TV? No meals in front of the tv.

Do you eat together as a family? Yes. Every meal is eaten together.

Are they at the family table? Yes, in the kitchen.

Are they still in a highchair? At night when DH is home from work to lift DS into the booster, DS eats in the booster. If it is just me since my 9th month PG and now 4 weeks post partum I have not put him in his booster. He sits in a regular chair with me for lunch.

If I leave the tv on at lunch time and the dvr switches to Handy Manny at noon he will not want to eat. He will want to run into the den to watch tv. So at lunch time the tv is off. We leave the tv on for the news at dinner time. We just talk over it.

Re: Where does your DC eat their meals

For us all meals are in the kitchen at the table. Meal time is family time, not TV time. This is how it was for me growing up, so I never really thought about doing it any other way.

He is still in his highchair and he eats slowly because he is still getting the hang of solids, so I usually get him started while I am making dinner and then we all finish up at the same time.
