Which Suffolk towns have a small town feel AND which do not have a small town feel?
Spinoff to listing Suffolk towns....
I see a lot of posters talking about some Suffolk towns, like Kings Park, that everyone knows everyone.
So I was wondering, what towns have that feel? And if you are not from that town, would you feel like an outsider?
Any towns with less of the small town feel? With more "new" families with no history moving in?

KIngs Park definitely is a small town, townie, clique-y town if you grew up there. Its one of those towns, where people marry people from the town ALL the time, were people go to school with their cousins and their parents also went to KPHS. I can walk into a million places in town and say hi to the store owner by name. People from KP, will very often poke fun at themselves or others for being a towny, but in reality love being one and love having such strong ties to their community.
Its not like that, I would imagine as a new comer, but if you are there long enough, it will be.

ETA: I think a lot of the reason that KP has that small town feel aside families staying to raise their own kids is bc unlike say commack and smithtown, where the town is built off of several major roads. KP is just a tiny tiny town with the most major road running through it being 25A, so its very self contained.

I'm in St. James and that's one of the biggest reasons we chose to buy here. It's not really a destination like say PJ is, but there's still a lot of convenience close at hand.
I agree with KP also although we don't really know many people there. I always got the neighborhood vibe when I've been there.

Miller Place and Port Jeff definitely.
I like KP too, I worked there.
We live in Holbrook and I do feel like it has a "small town" vibe to it a lot of times. We have a "Main Street" and right now it is all decorated for Christmas. And there are a lot of young families here too

They also do a lot of town events in Sayville where they close down Main St. or one of the side streets. The Christmas Parade, Pet Parade, Halloween Parade, Christmas Tree Lighting, craft fairs, BBQ competition, Summer Fest. You can go to Sayville.com to see pics of past events and what's coming up.

Holtsville definately does! In fact it's not even big enough to be considered a town. It's a hamlet!

This is one of my favorite things about living here (in Sayville). It's got this real close knit feeling.. but people are not all up in your business. When we go to any of the events - Family Fridays in the Park or Miracle on Main Street - we run into a lot of people we know and have a great time chatting and catching up. But it's not the kind of thing were you sit and gossip that Sally's husband got caught sleeping with Ben's wife. It's just homey and .. sweet. I always feel part of something bigger and it's comforting.

I had no idea you were so close We're in KP! It definitely has that small town feel to it - I've never met so many friendly, helpful neighbors but it does not feel like they are "in my business" at all.
It's strange... I grew up in Nassau county, in a town that I know many would consider to have that small town feel, and it never felt too small to me. I think a lot of it is perception, and how open you make yourself to the community.
