I agree completely. Romney was polished, but that's not going to chane my opinion. If people are blinded by his showmanship but don't listen to what he's truly saying, then that's a bigger problem. I also think people are desperate to latch onto anyone or anything anti-Obama.
Jim Lehrer is the real loser if te debate, and I like him a lot, but not in that forum. He completely lost control.
Can I just say, Bill Maher for President
not to single you out because I am sure a ton of people will make this point here but this all sounds SO familiar. lets think back to four years ago. everyone ran to something that was polar opposite of GWB and the Repub party - people wanted "CHANGE" ... what did we get 4 years later? More debt, fewer jobs, a crippled econ. I do not blame Obama as much of the ground work was laid well in advance of his term but NOTHING is really better.

Can we also stop the overuse of the word "scary" because I do not think it means what you think it means!!!!!!
Sure - What's the suggested alternative?
I'm not understanding this - are you saying *I* don't know what 'scary' means? Or are you saying that you and I have different perceptions of what is 'scary' ?
Because I am using it as Definition #1, not #2
Definition of SCARY 1: causing fright : alarming 2: easily scared : timid
Definition of SCARED : thrown into or being in a state of fear, fright, or panic
The thought of a Romeny/Ryan office scares (frightens, alarms) me - makes me fearful, nervous, uncomfortable ....scared.

The American people lost.
Romney was better at showmanship & Obama was on the defensive. I was very suprised because Obama always struck me as a better speaker. It could be the nature of their positions. I would think incumbents have to defend their policies & the new guy in town can point to everything that was done wrong.
But I'm not voting based on showmanship.
Obama is an excellent speaker - with a professionally written speech in front of him.
I disagree. I think he did extremely well in the debates 4 years ago.

No I will agree that we were desperate for change, and we still have a long ways to go, but I do still believe in Obama and his policies and his legislation, but I'm a bleeding heart liberal. I firmly believe that W's presidency set in motion our massive economic fall out, and its going to ake a very long time to recover no matter who is in office. I just think that some of Romneys overblown rhetoric glosses over the issues and people only hear what they want to hear.

I meant it as a joke because it seems to me to be the go-to anti-Obama adjective. I fully understand what it's definition is, but people seem to say it when they have nothing better to say.

its funny, i used to see myself as a dem, voted for Obama in 2008 but the past 4 years have REALLY changed my mindset. The federal government CANNOT solve TODAYS problems. We NEED to filter much of the decision making down to the state level.
There is no one size fits all bandaid for this country. I really believe that in order to solve many of our problems, states need to make decisions based on what the state population needs. People in NY cannot be goverened by what people in KS need or earn. It just will never work.

Re: Who won tonight's debate?
Mr. Etch-A-Sketch "won..."
sadly, if focused on the 'undecided' he seemed well informed but to me he just danced around issues, put some quotes in and never gave a concrete answer to the questions asked of specifics.
I also found that Romney nearly reversed every position he's been campaigning on for months. For an informed voter, this is huge. but too many people are uninformed. I also think when someone is NOT president, promising all the new & shiny things you're going to do in office is an advantage to a President who seemed to struggle in the office.
I'm struggling to understand what the role of the federal government will be under Romney. He wants to pass any and all responsibility to the States? Healthcare, education, repeals, you name it, its all on States that are already BROKE! State budgets will SKYROCKET!
I do not think Obama did well at all. He should have been more aggressive.
"A fish would not get caught if it kept its mouth shut". Perhaps the plan is to let Romney talk himself into trouble with all of the commitments and test how it plays with the right. We'll see if those positions holds muster with fact checkers. Time will tell.
I think they both did terrible but Romeny's "performance" was better.

It will be interesting to see the next 2 debates. I hope they have a different moderator for those.

agreed. We let W have 8 years to create this mess, lets give Obama 8 years to get us out of it.
I have to say... I wish he was running against McCain (with a different VP). I have WAAAAY more faith in McCain than I do with Romney.

not ONE person on my fb wall said Obama won. In fact, most of my Obama supporter friends expressed how disappointed they were and posted relevant articles.
almost all of my Romney friends (aside from one...) posted "Obama got mittslapped" jpgs and "ooooh Obama is going down" comments

I'm looking forward to Biden/Ryan... Sure, Biden makes gaffes but don't mess with him in a debate.
After watching Jim Lehrer(whom I hold in a very high regard as a journalist) get TRAMPLED and DISRESPECTED by both candidates last night I am hoping they get Judge Judy. =D

no, didn't say entitled... just my own opinion that I have more faith in him having another 4 years than giving Romney a chance.
But I am not blaming Obama's shortcomings on W. I just think he came into office with a HUGE 8-year in the making mess to fix.... I don't think anyone could have *fixed* it with one term. I'm being honest.
In 2004 i was FLOORED W got another term. Absolutely floored.

I don't think she said he was ENTITLED to anything. I think her point was, that it took 8+ years to get into this mess and it is going to take that much if not longer to repair it. So to say that we are "not back to normal" is a lot to expect of ANYONE in 4 years. You can't solely justify not voting for him on the fact that he hasn't turned the country a complete 180 yet.

Obama seemed bored last night. He's usually much more charismatic.
I didn't think it was boredom, more fatigue. He just didn't look well.
Some of the talking heads point out that basically Obama hasn't had to answer tough questions in 4 years because he's the media's darling, so perhaps he's out of practice.
