Actually in reading reports on ALL stations , Obama gets more negative press than positive and he his positive/negative ratio is worse than Romney's and basically almost anyone else's.
He's not the media's darling by any means. That's a narrative that has been given over and over again and reinforced, but it's not borne out by facts.
As far as the debate goes, I can't say that either candidate won. I do think Romney had a stronger showing. I think he was more impassioned, more convincing, but I think in terms of long-term strategy Obama did well.

Posted by HeathKernandez agreed. We let W have 8 years to create this mess, lets give Obama 8 years to get us out of it.
This school of thought makes no sense to me! Like he is entitled to another term becaus of that?
I don't think she said he was ENTITLED to anything. I think her point was, that it took 8+ years to get into this mess and it is going to take that much if not longer to repair it. So to say that we are "not back to normal" is a lot to expect of ANYONE in 4 years. You can't solely justify not voting for him on the fact that he hasn't turned the country a complete 180 yet.
Exactly. People assumed Obama had a magic wand to wave and restore the US back to its glory days.

I know you were kidding. I was responding more to the prior comment about being the media darling. We KNOW Fox News does negative coverage of Obama, but really just about every station is more negative than positive. I think MSNBC was the only exception

Mr. Etch-A-Sketch "won..."
sadly, if focused on the 'undecided' he seemed well informed but to me he just danced around issues, put some quotes in and never gave a concrete answer to the questions asked of specifics.
I also found that Romney nearly reversed every position he's been campaigning on for months. For an informed voter, this is huge. but too many people are uninformed. I also think when someone is NOT president, promising all the new & shiny things you're going to do in office is an advantage to a President who seemed to struggle in the office.
I'm struggling to understand what the role of the federal government will be under Romney. He wants to pass any and all responsibility to the States? Healthcare, education, repeals, you name it, its all on States that are already BROKE! State budgets will SKYROCKET!
I do not think Obama did well at all. He should have been more aggressive.
"A fish would not get caught if it kept its mouth shut". Perhaps the plan is to let Romney talk himself into trouble with all of the commitments and test how it plays with the right. We'll see if those positions holds muster with fact checkers. Time will tell.
I think they both did terrible but Romeny's "performance" was better.
I have to say that I was completely turned off by Romney's aggression. I thought it made him look douchey and arrogant. There were moments where I was actually yelling at my tv when he spoke.
------------------------------------ From Factcheck.org:
The Impossible Plan
However, Romney continued to struggle to explain how he could possibly offset such a large loss of revenue without shifting the burden away from upper-income taxpayers, who benefit disproportionately from across-the-board rate cuts and especially from elimination of the estate tax (which falls only on estates exceeding $5.1 million left by any who die this year). The Tax Policy Center concluded earlier this year that it wasn’t mathematically possible for a plan such as Romney’s to cut rates as he promised without either favoring the wealthy or increasing the federal deficit.
Except for saying that his plan would bring in the same amount of money “when you account for growth,” Romney offered no new explanation for how he might accomplish all he’s promised. He just repeated those promises in some of the strongest terms yet.
Romney: My number one principal is, there will be no tax cut that adds to the deficit. … I will not reduce the taxes paid by high-income Americans. … I will lower taxes on middle-income families.
But he didn’t say how he’d pull off all those things at once. -----------------------------
Line of the night, IMO:
"And at some point, I think the American people have to ask themselves, is the reason that Governor Romney is keeping all these plans to replace secret because they're too good? Is it -- is it because that somehow middle-class families are going to benefit too much from them?"

I am team Obama all the way, but I think Romney just did his campaign a great service; even if I still think he is a horse's ass. This is not to say I think he was more accurate or factual, just that he came across more sure of himself and more convincingly.
I agree with this.
I was disappointed with Obama's performance but still turned off by Romney. I just cannot believe there is not a better Republican candidate out there.

Honestly, I just find it completely insulting at this point. I find it condescending. It is very, "Don't you worry your pretty little head about it, you wouldn't understand, let me handle it."
This is EXACTLY it !! I could never think of a way to explain it
To me, on top of being condescending, it's very 'man in the van with the candy'; "just trust me, I have something in here you'll like..."
Yes!! I called it a Pedophile thing..but that's way more accurate. He gives me the heebie jeebies. I know, not relevant to the OP's question. Sorry.

The American people lost.
Romney was better at showmanship & Obama was on the defensive. I was very suprised because Obama always struck me as a better speaker. It could be the nature of their positions. I would think incumbents have to defend their policies & the new guy in town can point to everything that was done wrong.
But I'm not voting based on showmanship.
Obama is an excellent speaker - with a professionally written speech in front of him.
I disagree. I think he did extremely well in the debates 4 years ago.
Posted by maymama I do not blame Obama as much of the ground work was laid well in advance of his term but NOTHING is really better.
and I disagree with this too.
I agree with Barb.
and I have to laugh b/c there was a thread the other day and so many people are doing better but anti Obama people specifically ponted out "its not b/c of Obama" but the wstate of the country being HORRIBLE is hahaha
the fact of the matter is, we are gong through a transitional period. the jobs we are creating now are not the same jobs we lost and are continuing to lose.
that takes MAJOR growing pains on the country as a whole. slowly the economy IS picking pack up. There was just a positive jobs report that the (evil) stock market responded to.
I read Paul Ryan's plan. THAT to me, is scary.

Re: Who won tonight's debate?
Many things concern me about a Romney presidency, but if you live in an area with high real estate taxes and own a home, you should be especially scared of this:
Romney last night: "But in order for us not to lose revenue, have the government run out of money, I also lower deductions and credits and exemptions, so that we keep taking in the same money when you also account for growth."
Ladies and gentleman, I am pretty sure he is talking about our deductions for mortgage interest and real estate taxes.
I estimate that a Romney presidency would make many of our taxes go up by THOUSANDS.

yes, so he is not lying when he says he wouldn't TAX the middle class more, but by removing the deductions, he is effectually doing the same thing.
and I do not believe for ONE MINUTE that he will so much as glance at any piece of legislature that changes corporate loopholes or tax breaks. not for one single solitary iota of a second.

Re: Who won tonight's debate?
the healthcare bill is what REALLY gets my goat. I infuriates me to hear how wrongly it is being portrayed, but that is b/c Romney knows that at least 47% of the population haven't read it.
I'd raise that to 97% but no one cares what I think b/c I am not running for president

This happens with any tax "decrease". The IRS gives you a dollar in your hand while it's got it's got it's hand in your back pocket taking out $5. That is why the IRS code is so involved and constantly changing. RR did it...he lowered tax brackets but took away lots of deductions, raised floors and lowered ceilings.

Taking away or lower mortgage interest and tax deductions will cripple the housing market even further. People won't buy and then rents will go up.
Then the working poor will be homeless and the middle class will get screwed.
Again, apologies not addressing the OP's original question.

For all of the comments about how Romney was rude...did you miss the part where an obviously agitated Obama said "I believe I had 5 seconds left before you interrupted me" then went on to talk for another 3 min. It's a debate, both candidates are fighting for talking time, they were both aggressive, not just Romney

I didn't miss it and I was actually shocked about that but at the same time I don't really blame him for being agitated since Romney was doing it all night. Romney just completely ignored Lehrer and kept talking.
Loser of last night's debate : Lehrer - thought this had some interesting points about it.
