For all of the comments about how Romney was rude...did you miss the part where an obviously agitated Obama said "I believe I had 5 seconds left before you interrupted me" then went on to talk for another 3 min. It's a debate, both candidates are fighting for talking time, they were both aggressive, not just Romney
yes, I saw it. at the very least, he addressed Lehrer and didn't just bulldoze over him.
That and Romney with his "he started so I get to finish" tantrum.
I agree, he said that a few times, sounded childish.
Very childish, like a petulant, whiny child.

I am team Obama all the way, but I think Romney just did his campaign a great service; even if I still think he is a horse's ass. This is not to say I think he was more accurate or factual, just that he came across more sure of himself and more convincingly.
This exactly. I'm very disappointed with President Obama's performance, truth be told. He NEEDS to swing those voters still on the fence and he had so many opportunities he did not take last night

ROMNEY
If the next debate is like this one, he will win so many of the votes of the people who are indecisive about who to vote for. And if people are so "scared" of him, then move out of the country I guess.
I don't think I'll be moving out of the country thank you.
But I do have to agree (and again it scares me) that people will stupidly tip their vote in his favor not because they're hearing WHAT he's saying, or agreeing with it - but just because he seems to be a stronger presence. (I'm NOT saying that people who vote for Romney are stupid, I'm saying to decide your vote solely on how he handles the debate is stupid)
On the same note, some people...not everyone...but some people voted for obama the last election for the same reason. He was a better speaker, especially coming off of bush, and people were clinging to anything anti republican. Its not a blanket statement of course, but some people do vote that way, and have in the past.
Just because I can objectively state that he won the debate, does not in ANY way mean I think what he had to say had any substance or sincerity. He just handled himself better, spoke better, was more assertive .......
The mediator was pitiful and had NO control over the situation. And Obama was on the defensive, partly b/c as the incumbent, it just is what it is, and partly because he was totally off his game last night.
I agree that Romney won, but I don't think he buried the President, or made him look terrible, or pointed out some major flaw that was previously unknown to voters.
I agree completely. Romney was polished, but that's not going to chane my opinion. If people are blinded by his showmanship but don't listen to what he's truly saying, then that's a bigger problem. I also think people are desperate to latch onto anyone or anything anti-Obama.
Jim Lehrer is the real loser if te debate, and I like him a lot, but not in that forum. He completely lost control.
Can I just say, Bill Maher for President

His attitude to Jim Lehrer won him no points, but Lehrer wasn't in complete control either. Like I said, he seemed to have things memorized that he just wanted to spew them all out.
my absolute FAVORITE was the Jim Lehrer point BLANK asked him what he will do as president... and his answer was a bunch of dancing around and "it's time for a new path..."
I was SCREAMING at the tv "ANSWER THE FREAKING QUESTION"

Re: Who won tonight's debate?
yup....
"Virtually every time Mr. Romney spoke, he misrepresented the platform on which he and Paul Ryan are actually running. The most prominent example, taking up the first half-hour of the debate, was on taxes. Mr. Romney claimed, against considerable evidence, that he had no intention of cutting taxes on the rich or enacting a tax cut that would increase the deficit. "
I thought I had a stroke and was like ... what... didn't he claim the OPPOSITE?

This is a fantastic article, thank you!
Oh, a Times editorial that clearly leans left?
That's different.
(Sorry, I had to...)
Overall, I thought Romney won the debate.
Obama, for the first time, had to face difficult questions about his term and the economic status of our country. Do I want to vote for him? No. Do I want to vote for Romney? No.
But I will say that there's something VERY appealing about a Republican governor who was in charge of the most LIBERAL state in the country and could bring both parties together. I thought Obama would bring people together in 2008, but he hasn't. (And yes, we could debate who's to blame for that...congress, repubs, etc....but I want a LEADER who makes it a priority to work together)
I'm left feeling the way in 2008...I WANT to believe in the "hope/change" message that Obama eloquently projects, but in 4 years I just haven't seen it and I'm not sure I want to buy-in for 2012.
On election day I may just vote for the local races and not pull a lever in the presidential row.
I am, once again, disillusioned by politicians.

That was his golden opportunity to step up to the plate and be clear and decisive in his platform. TELL me why you want me to vote for you, SHOW me what you will do differently...instead, it was just a jumble of typical Republican dialogue about needing a new path, like you said, and needing change.
Thanks, Captain Obvious

...Wait, wasn't that Obama's EXACT line 4 years ago? Change? Obama had the SAME struggle 4 years ago when he was asked about HIS economic plan. Couldn't give a specific plan, but pushed the idea of "change."
I wouldn't say that's a Republican line....but rather a politican's line.

Re: Who won tonight's debate?
I know Obama can do no wrong whatsoever, however I just feel like politically, this country is more divided now than it has ever been in my almost half-century existence. Now I know someone will say "thats because of those scum sucking Republicans" but the point is that Obama's presidency has for whatever reasons caused a giant rift and the parties CANNOT seem to work together under his leadership.

Yes, I am reading all these complaints about Romney being vague-not giving straight answers, but I am missing where Obama is so clear. Was he clear 4 years ago? If he gave precise answers to these questions 4 years ago, then can he explain what went wrong with his grand plan (other than blame blame blame the other guys). What is his CLEAR response? I was not impressed by him, he did not win any points from me because I do not see where he is going to improve the outlook of where this country is headed.

“Well that is true, [making Obama a one-term President is] my single most important political goal along with every active Republican in the country." - Mitch McConnell
I've been reading liberal, moderate, and conservative websites/blogs/facebook pages. Many of the comments I've read from people who are anti-Obama mention how Obama is a Muslim Terrorist or some other ridiculous claim. I've heard this PERSONALLY from someone I know, a JUDGE in the NY Courts - Obama is a Muslim terrorist who is using his position to get inside information so he can help Al Qaeda.

I agree. I don't see anyone saying Obama can do no wrong at all. But the burden can't be placed solely on him- would Congress have worked better under a McCain presidency? Maybe- he would have had to lock Sarah Palin in a closet- but as soon as Obama won- before he did anything really- at least one Republican said the goal was to ensure a one-term presidency. They were never, ever going to attempt to work with him, and that's not his fault.
Anyway, to answer the question, Obama was a huge disappointment to me last night. Romney had more style, but he looked smug and arrogant, not presidential.

Re: Who won tonight's debate?
Obama did not bring his A game last night and it was as if he was off, he didn't even look well to me.
Romney presented very well, the problem is that he completely contradicted the platform he has been running on, compounded by the fact that he does not explain how he will succeed in accomplishing his goals, it just cements for me that either he doesn't know what he will do or doesn't want us to know bc most of us won't benefit, no other reason to hide it.
