Why is everyone not freaking out?
As an ER nurse I am not worried. I am more worried about the patient that comes in with a cough and has undiagnosed TB. I come into contact with a plethora of things every single day and that's part of my job. My concern is when I can bring that home to my family. The fact is that of these people who have contacted it 2 brought it back from Africa and were diagnosed because of direct contact. None of the family or any others have become ill. I'm not unaware of the danger, and I'm not freaked out. I am vigilant and use the precautions I was taught to keep myself and others safe. The media has, is, and will always cause mass hysteria. That is what freaks me out more then anything. That and people like Tori Spelling. How the f*ck would she get it? It just adds to the hysteria so shame on her and shame on the media for even publishing some ******** article about it even being a possibility.

Remember the thread about whether or not you relate to anyone on LIF?
Yeah.
This thread solidifies it. A lot of people make me feel better about myself.

I agree. It's fine to agree to disagree but what some people write goes beyond opinion and into being childish and bullying.
who is she bullying? That is quite an overreaction.
Its an internet message board - what do you expect? Not everyone is going to feel the same way about things and thats fine. Seems to me that some are trying to calm the hysteria that many seem to think is completely unnecessary and overblown.
I didn't mention anyone or point anyone out. It's a general statement. Several people wrote things that go beyond an opinion. And I don't think there is any hysteria it's people who are voicing concern where others like you are voicing the need not to be concerned.

Re: Why is everyone not freaking out?
I work in a college and work on the register , yes students come in sick sneezing, coughing, Am I a little nervous about Ebola being in New York now? yes .., But I'm not going to go crazy and obsess over it until I have a reason to be worried and concerned! We all know the symptoms and what to look out for, It's not catching or catagious meaning you can't get it by a kiss on the cheek or hug , if you share a drink or exchange saliva you have a chance of getting it if said person is affected with the disease,Let's all relax and just enjoy the day and weekend

Re: Why is everyone not freaking out?
To answer the question about why people can't vent or freak out:
Ofcourse you can vent and freak out and stay home more or feel panick. However, I for one like to be told to calm the Fluck down when I'm overreacting to something that maybe im not seeing clearly because of my fears or whatever issue I may have. I can overreact to things and I always have my Dh or sister to reign me back in. I do the same to them.
I don't think there is anything wrong with posters providing facts or other case scenarios to calm people's nerves. Maybe it will calm your fears or make someone feel better. Imagine if everyone one was in mass hysteria and there was no one in this world with a calm disposition? Total chaos would ensue! I also blame the media for bad reporting.
Also the question is why isnt everyone freaked out cause it hit NYC and I replied im still ok. I'm entitled to post why I am not worried.

You have better chance of getting into a car wreck so lets ban cars!
I am going to say it. I have been holding it in for weeks. You are so downright nasty to everyone on these threads. You don't worry.. awesome.. some people do. So your response is to mock them and make them feel bad? Who does that?
I can't decide if you really are afraid so you can't stop reading these threads or if you just get off on putting people down.
WOW. Am I missing something? I didn't think she was being nasty at all. In fact, there is a certain poster on this thread who was upsetting me for the opposite reason; every post meant to calm people down seems to be met with reasons why we shouldn't be calm...as if they want to cause hysteria.
I am typically a person who over-worries and if I were losing my mind with fear about this like I often do, Xelindrya's and others' comments about why we shouldn't be afraid would have actually made me feel a lot better. I think there are a lot of people who NEED to be talked out of the fear.
For those of you posting asking why you can't come on here and just talk about freaking out without people saying you shouldn't...for some of us it can be calming and important to hear people making a case against the fear.

NEWARK (WABC) -- A health care worker arriving from Africa who was placed in mandatory quarantine as part of a new policy by the governors of New York and New Jersey has developed a fever.
The state health department said the woman had no symptoms upon arrival at Newark Liberty Airport, but on Friday night she developed the fever and is now in isolation and being evaluated at University Hospital in Newark.
University Hospital released a statement saying, "The healthcare worker Governor Chris Christie indicated earlier today would be -quarantined because of a recent history of treating Ebola patients in West Africa had no symptoms upon arrival at Newark Liberty International Airport earlier today. This evening, the health care worker developed a fever and is now in isolation and being evaluated at University Hospital in Newark."

I have to say I don't take it as mocking either. I think she is trying to sound rational and put things into perspective. And I am quite the worrier myself, but I don't take it as mocking.

Two people on Long Island were also affected by the new screening rules. The Suffolk County Health Department said the travelers landed at JFK after a trip to West Africa, and were not sick when they arrived.
But pursuant to the new rules, they will be monitored for 21 days.
The CDC is reviewing its policy for health care workers returning from West Africa, but anyone flying into a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey airport will need to abide by the new procedures.

With all due respect she posted a cartoon of someone running with their hair on fire.

I'm actually starting to come to the conclusion that people like being freaked out. That life seems more interesting if you're running around with your hair on fire. so true and very funny! I literally lol!
sorry if this offends but this reminded me of this: IMAGE
(which is from 'dumb ways to die' in case you didn't know)
But she posted that picture in response to BunnyWife's comment about running around with your hair on fire. (see above quote)
There is another post on here with a video of HennyPenny from the Golden Girls. There is plenty of talk, not just Xelindria, that could be construed as mocking those who are fearful. That's why I don't get her being singled out, to be honest. That's all.

Re: Why is everyone not freaking out?
Am I freaking out about Ebola - not really. That said, the idea of it does freak me out a little. It is a reminder of times like the WTC or Hurricane Sandy that as secure as we are in this world worrying about stupid things going through the motions every day - it really could change dramatically at any second. Walking through my town after Hurricane Sandy I thought to myself - WOW, never would I have expected that one night could change my "world" like this. What's happening with Ebola - a disease I would have NEVER thought we be in my home state shows me not to take these things for granted and, that our country is not as strong as we think and might not be prepared for something like this if it was introduced unnaturally etc.
I won't get into the mocking the people that are afraid - I just don't really understand that at all.

Why is everyone not freaking out?
I'm freaking out that even after Irene and Sandy and being out of power so long I'm still not prepared if something like that happens again. I need to get off my butt and get prepared for ANY type of disaster...(Snow, power failure, storm...)
I think it really hit home that we are truly on our own in a disaster when no one from the town came around to check on residents. Nothing! And it was doubly scary as my mom was on oxygen and with the power out the machine did not work and we couldn't get in contact with company to get some canisters delivered.
