I also want to point out, the American camera man that was working in West Africa who contracted the disease, has NO idea how he got it. He didn't come into contact with any bodily fluids of someone that had ebola he had said.
I heard somewhere that he was disinfecting Ebola laced materials and something sprayed back into his face.

Why is everyone not freaking out?
I do agree with most that said that I don't get why anyone who is expose to Ebola aren't staying away from everyone for 21 days! I get you were doing good by helping people but you should have the decency to quarantine your self for 21 days after your done treating them!

Re: Why is everyone not freaking out?
Remember how like three weeks ago ALL anyone was talking about was enterovirus and every person was freaking out? My FB newsfeed was blowing up with information as was every news report.
And then...........BOOM!...........some case of Ebola pops up and now everyone is in a panic that they are somehow going to contract it, regardless of how slim the possibility, and nobody is even mentioning enterovirus anymore.
My point? The media drives hysteria. Some people are losing their minds. And to be honest, why? What does it gain you? It's completely 100% out of your control and the reality is, you probably have a higher likelihood of being struck dead by lightening than you do of contracting Ebola.
I would bet money in another few weeks, you won't hear mention of Ebola in the news like we are hearing now. The media will have latched on to some other thing to panic the nation about unnecessarily and that will be that. That's always how it goes.
But in the meantime..........practice good hygiene, eat well, try and stay healthy, and go live your life. It's all you CAN do. Stressing, freaking out, and being panicked will only serve to drive you insane.........it won't change anything.

Re: Why is everyone not freaking out?
I think it should be part of their pay or stipend that anyone who goes over there should be paid for 21 days after they return to the states. I really don't think that's unreasonable. It's insane that this isn't mandatory. Now these businesses are also losing significant revenue because this guy decided he needed to bowl a few games.

Yeah, I agree the media shapes public opinion and fears, but sometimes there is a real threat and just because the media is reporting it, doesn't mean that people are over reacting. The facts themselves are highly concerning IMO. There is a case of a deadly virus with no cure in NYC and they admittedly don't know everything there is to know about it... ? Such a crowded, populated city. So close to here. I am concerned regardless of what the media says.

I understand that it's not easy to get, relatively speaking. But what if this guy started violently vomiting at the bowling alley? apparently vomit is very infectious. He's an idiot. Just a total idiot.

Why is everyone not freaking out?
They've already admitted it's airborne. If someone sneezes it can be spread. What's to say he didn't sneeze on a subway car and someone else touches it later. I think it's very scary. I can't understand how a doctor who knew he was possibly exposed could get on a subway or go bowling. It's irresponsible. I think it's commendable he wanted to help over there, but then he should be subject to mandatory quarantine. Do you know how many countries have closed off travel from Africa and issued mandatory quarantines. We're to "civilized" for our own good.
And I have 0 faith in the CDC.

What is freaking out going to do? I can't stop my life or keep my son from school, quarantine ourselves in the house. I'll keep monitoring the news but other than that there isnt much I can do.
Seriously why freak out over something you have absolutely no control over. Makes zero sense to me. Now that doesn't mean I'm not going to try to protect myself and my children. I will take preventative measures of course. But I'm really not going to let fear control my life.

Holy crap, the guy worked in an ebola treatment center, and didn't have the wherewithal to quarantine himself for 21 days after he got back!! IDIOT!!! I can't even understand this AT ALL.
News Conference on Ch 4 right now
It floors me how our government refuses to mandatory quarantine these at risk people yet if this turns into a pandemic they will instantly put mandatory quarantines on all of us and it will be horrific.
Just curious if you are watching the nyc and nys health dept commissioners. They are saying over and over again how diificult it would be to catch EVD even from the subway!! I guess people are not even feeling trust towards these docs and what they are saying.
The EPA and Christie Todd Whitman said the air at ground zero was safe to breath. We are human and make mistakes.I have zero faith in the CDC , especially since they have handled things the past few weeks.
Exactly. I don't need to watch or listen to what they say because not only do I not believe them I don't believe even they know!
So if someone is sitting there with Ebola and not showing any symptoms at 10pm. But at 10:01 they start to feel achy. And at 11pm slight chills. And 12am a low fever and by 6am a full blown fever can anyone tell me with 100p absolutely certainty that this person became contagious at 10:01pm but at 9:30 they weren't contagious? It's just a switch that is flipped at that exact second?
Right....no one knows! Now they said the guy has been fatigued since Tuesday. How is fatigue not a "symptom"?
Because we get fatigued from many things.....I'm fatigued after a long week of work. Anyone traveling multiple time zones gets fatigued.
If fatigued was the first symptom millions of people would be running to the hospital saying they had Ebola because of the panic.

Exactly this. The media is driving the hysteria and it's exhausting. We should all be more concerned about the flu than ebola

Why is everyone not freaking out?
Here we go again... you can't get it from a patient with a fever. That has been proven already by patient zero and the nurse. Fatigue? What didn't cause fatigue? What's a fever to you? Sometimes I feel hot but I'm fine. Other times I feel find but I'm feverish.
He will be fine.
There are several articles and videos and links that prove banning flights does nothing.
This paranoia is caused by the media.

It was utterly and completely irresponsible for the doctor to be out and about after coming from Guinea, having treated full blown Ebola patients. They stated he wasn't even feeling that well yesterday. Why was he on the subway, bowling alley, restaurant, etc?!? This is a doctor with first hand experience of how deadly this virus is. He should be ashamed of himself.
ITA. And though I'm not really scared about the whole thing, I can't for the life of me understand why more precautionary measures aren't bring taken.

People should honestly be more concerned with an ISIS attack on our soil, than Ebola. That threat is very real. And the hatchet attack yesterday by a Muslim radical? Those are the things that cause true worry for me. It's coming.

I'm way more concerned over ISIS or enterovirus (which a girl in smithtown was just diagnosed). It's only a matter of time before ISIS has a big attack on our soil. In the last few days alone a Canadian soldier was shot and killed and a cop hit with a hatchet....all by Muslim radicals. To me,that is so much for a reality in my world than catching Ebola.

One insistence doesn't prove you can't get it from someone with a fever. His family likely knew he was infected and stayed away. All information that is out there states you CAN get it from someone with a fever as they are showing symptoms.

That's not true, you can get it from water particles of body fluid of an infected person. So if the infected person sneezes and the sneeze lands on you or on an object and you touch it, you can get it. While you can't actually breath it in, this makes it transmit table through the air. The UN and CDC actually had to admit that, though they spend more time hiding that fact.
Also they did studies on animals. The animals were in different cages and never interacted, but the animals in the second, uninflected cage got sick.
Do you know they actually think the "Black Plague" may have actually been Ebola. Tell me that's not scary?

Re: Why is everyone not freaking out?
Bottom line- yes, this Doctor is a complete and utter asshole for not quarantining himself after returning from caring for Ebola patients. Complete asshole and I almost feel like he should face some kind of charges. And yes, not sure how he was allowed back into the general population at all. Is there no oversight on this, especially now with all the media coverage. That to me is hard to comprehend.
