Why is recovery worse after a crash c-section?
Just wondering!
My first was crash and I will probably be scheduled for my 2nd. I was definitely in a ton of pain even after I left the hospital but I wasnt given pain meds when I was home. I had a horrible surgery so I didnt care about the pain after as I was so happy that surgery was over!
For those who would say they had a bad recovery, can you describe your experience? Could you get comfortable sleeping at home? Was getting into shower (lifting leg) an issue? Etc......
Thanks!

Re: Why is recovery worse after a crash c-section?
I wouldn't say my c/s was "crash" but after 17 hours of labor, I stalled and they ultimately said that they didn't think it would happen vaginally.
For about 12-13 hours I was given increasing doses of pitocin. I honestly think that is why my recovery was so painful. The pitocin beats the hell out of your uterus and at the time I wasn't feeling it because of my epidural. The next morning when all the meds wore off I was feeling the pain big time. Trying to walk was torture but I had to in order to see my DD in NICU.
At home the hardest part was climbing into our bed since it's so high off the ground and I'm short. I had to put a step ladder next to the bed. Another thing that was tough the first week home was car rides. Every bump was killing me!
It took about 2 wks for me to start feeling normal again.

Re: Why is recovery worse after a crash c-section?
I had 2 scheduled c/s and had great recoveries for both. My first OB said that when you are in labor for X hours maybe even pushing for X hours, and then have a c/s your body has to do double the recovery. Basically it has to recover from the trauma of labor, pushing, the change in not being preggo anymore, and on top of all that it has to recover from surgery.
If you just have a scheduled c/s your body has 1 recovery to focus its efforts on, not 2.
I can't speak from experience because I had 2 scheduled but it makes sense to me.

Re: Why is recovery worse after a crash c-section?
I had an elective CS but recovery was horrible. I was in so much pain for over 3 weeks , I could barely move, I would scream every time I had to stand up . After 3 weeks the sharp pain went away but I was still uncomfortable for another 2-3 weeks. It took me close to a year to finally feel like my old self, I also ended up getting shots in my scar bc it was killingme for a year . It was terrible . I am scared to death of another CS with this pregnancy , but VBAC is not an option for me soI try not to think about it

My first OB said that when you are in labor for X hours maybe even pushing for X hours, and then have a c/s your body has to do double the pain this might be true in my case, I was scheduled for a CS from the very beggining of my pregnancy , but my water broke the night before my scheduled CS and I ended up in the waiting room with contractions every few min for 5 hrs - my water broke at around 9 pm and DD was born at 2am - bc they "were trying to look for an operating room that was available" ( one of the reasons I can't stand LIJ, lol) Plus by then I had already had 2 emergency visits to the hospital and was admitted once for few days bc I went into early labor at 32 weeks, but they menaged to stop the contractions, i was dialated 2cm at 33 weeks. So maybe all the stress on my body had something to do with my terrible recovery .

Re: Why is recovery worse after a crash c-section?
I pushed for over 2 hrs before the babies HR started to drop and Dr decided on a Csection. I had an amazing recovery. I really think it depends on your body and your Dr.
My sis had a planned section and had a harder recovery.
I really don't think it has anything to do with if it was crash or not but thats just my experience.

Re: Why is recovery worse after a crash c-section?
Both girls were born via c/s. both emergency.
The recovery with #2 was much better then #1. I think it's because I was in full active labor with #1,but not #2. So I think my body just went through way too much. With #2 I was up and moving the next day.

I agree with others.. my first csection.. i was in labor (back labor no less) for 24 hours before they decided to give me a csection.. my body was just exhausted!!! I look forward to a scheduled csection with a future second..lol

I completely agree, I was induced, pushed for 2 hours and finally had a csection and had a pretty good recovery with no complications
