Why oh why so many old people!!
Ok, so I went to vote at 615am and waited 30 minutes. I knew I'd have to wait, but I was amazed with all the senior citzens on line so early. Hello, if you're retired why not go at like 10AM when it will be empty. Leave the before 9am times to working folks who have trains to catch and commuting to deal with
Also, I know they don't get paid, but one lady checking everyone in. Oh vey!!

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
I think it's fantastic that they got out to vote honestly. I had to commute this morning too, but I certainly don't begrudge anyone their right to vote at whatever time they choose.
The issue of not enough election day workers is another thing entirely, though.

Did you vote in Queens? The senior citizens go early because they are up at 4 am.

that's what my DH said. I mean really, all they have to do today is vote, so they choose to go when people are trying to do it before work. A lot of us on line were shocked. I mean really

Seriously? That's what you think of senior citizens? My grandmother who will be 96 next week, just stopped working two years ago. DH's uncle is in his 70's and still works ... not everyone over 65 just sits around knitting or playing checkers.

Ok, according to 5 old ladies on line today, this is what they had to do today so don't go snapping at me so quickly. This was directly out of their mouths. The one woman said "I'm grantful I don't have to commute today, all I have to do today is vote"

And it's their right to vote at whatever time they want to vote. You're not more important than they are just because you have to commute after you vote. You could have chosen to vote after work if you have to get into work that early.

I think you were on line with my DH this am - he was like my God between the senior citizens coffee clatching taking their sweet time to get things going because they are "excited" and the ones waiting in line at 6am when others have actual things to do today.
Like why are you in a supermarket on a Tuesday nightat 7pm - you didn't have allllllllll day to do this?

ITA - there are lots of retirees who watch their grandchildren too. They probably need to get out to vote before their children have to commute/get to work, etc. Really insensitive and ignorant post

Thank you!! I feel like I'm getting attacked here and people think I'm being ignorant when the truth is I was just stunned and heard out of their own mouth that this is all they had to do today. And keep in mind, they too were complaining about the line, so I bite my tongue, but def. felt like saying "why not come when it will be empty".

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
It wouldn't bother me if I went to vote this morning and there were old people there. I mean most companies give you the extra time to vote today anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem if you commute and have to get to work late.... That's just unnecessary to feel away about it..

The title of your post is "why oh why so many old people" - at best that's incredibly insensitive. You heard 5 women saying that's all they had to do today - how many were in line? It doesn't matter really, the point is that blanket statements perpetuating stereotypes are really unfair. Everyone over 18 has just as much right to vote as you do, whenever they choose to do it.

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
Ok ladies, I think you're reading way too into what she said.
Kerry isn't begrudging anyone of voting, she was just simply making an observation that she was surprised at how many seniors were out voting so early in the day. She wasn't at ANY time begrudging their RIGHT to vote, she just expressed an OPINION saying that she would have wished they would have done it later in the day when the polls are not so busy.
Let's face it, there are plenty of retired folk out there who's schedules are wide open today and ANY day of the week. Many, not all, have the luxury of planning their day however they want but we all know those who are younger are running to work, be it via the railroad or driving.
I think you're taking what she said just a little too far. I know Kerry personally, she's just not that mean.
Now pregnant and hormonal? Well that's another thing!!
Edited to quote no one as it seems many are jumping on the "Kerry hates old people bandwagon".

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
Ladies -
Please, let's all try to keep our sense of humors in tact Today shall we? This is gonna be a very looooong day on the boards, at work, and at home.
If we are gonna jump all over people for the things that they are trying to post in what I belive was meant to be lighthearted in nature - imagine what today will bring when the harsher post and comments are made?
And we all know they will be made.
