but when she continued with "what else do they have to do today" I found it distasteful and I said so.
she QUOTED what the woman SAID! It came out of the lady's mouth herself!

Roll away!!!!!!!!
Posted by kerrycec03 that's what my DH said. I mean really, all they have to do today is vote, so they choose to go when people are trying to do it before work. A lot of us on line were shocked. I mean really
The mention about it coming directly from the 5 women themselves didnt' come until well after she posted this!

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
The elderly require less sleep, which is why they are typically up so early etc etc.
I know you meant no harm, but some of the comments echo EXACTLY what I am learning about in one of my Development classes.. Misconceptions about the elderly etc etc.
we expect them to be a certain way, which isn't very fair.
But I understand you didn't mean it in a derogatory way.

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
My mom and dad always voted the minute the polls opened.
They were up early and they didn't want to battle lines later in the day and have to wait and stand for too long.
I do the same.

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
if I was retired the last thing I would want to do is be at the polls at 6am!!
My mom went at 8:30 (she isnt retired) and not a line to be had.
I am guessing that from the looks of what happened in this thread...this is NOT the only "venting" thread that is going to cause drama today!!

I think as a senior citizen they have a right to go to vote whenever they want to. They have earned it! Plain and simple.

There were tons of seniors when I went to vote, I was definitely the youngest one there when I voted (I'm 25).

DH and I are combining our vote time with dog walking time. We will take turns while the dog stays outside, but I'm sure I'll get some looks....

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
we had two older women, although I would not necessarily consider them elderly, who pretended to not speak english cut right in front of me and DH-- AFTER we had already waited over an hour.

Also, I know they don't get paid, but one lady checking everyone in. Oh vey!!
they do get paid. Both my parents are working the booths.
So is my FIL....he worked it everyday over the last decade or so. They get paid, but it's meager and they get fed.

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
They were there at 10:30 (at my polling place) as well. Old people tend to vote in large numbers, and many get up early. My parents live in a senior community that has their own polling location, and they planned to go around 10:30, or else around 7 pm if it's too crowded, since everyone goes to bed early!
I was happy to see them at 10:30 actually, we were in line about 20 minutes, and I had my 11 month old with me. Usually, I can count on seniors to make a big fuss over him and keep him entertained, and today one couple did--he was ecstatic with all their attention.

You might want to reconsider this approach if the lines are long. If you go separately, you could be there for hours... Go early!

Seriously? That's what you think of senior citizens? My grandmother who will be 96 next week, just stopped working two years ago. DH's uncle is in his 70's and still works ... not everyone over 65 just sits around knitting or playing checkers.
Well said. My parents are in their early 80's and are very active. That statement is ridiculous.

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!
Actually, I was just going to say, a lot of older people do work these days. My FIL is 83 and still works full time. My parents know plenty of people who work also, often for the benefits more than the salary.

I don't understan why the OP is getting attacked like this. I'm sure she didn't mean anything bad at all. Seems like lately every post gets attacked by at least one poster. I think we all need to get more sleep I know I do

Ok, according to 5 old ladies on line today, this is what they had to do today so don't go snapping at me so quickly. This was directly out of their mouths. The one woman said "I'm grantful I don't have to commute today, all I have to do today is vote"
And it's their right to vote at whatever time they want to vote. You're not more important than they are just because you have to commute after you vote. You could have chosen to vote after work if you have to get into work that early.
I have to totally agree here, should there be a special voting time slot for me too since I didn't have somewhere to be afterward?
