Ok ladies, I think you're reading way too into what she said.

Kerry isn't begrudging anyone of voting, she was just simply making an observation that she was surprised at how many seniors were out voting so early in the day. She wasn't at ANY time begrudging their RIGHT to vote, she just expressed an OPINION saying that she would have wished they would have done it later in the day when the polls are not so busy.

Let's face it, there are plenty of retired folk out there who's schedules are wide open today and ANY day of the week. Many, not all, have the luxury of planning their day however they want but we all know those who are younger are running to work, be it via the railroad or driving.

I think you're taking what she said just a little too far. I know Kerry personally, she's just not that mean.

Now pregnant and hormonal? Well that's another thing!! Chat Icon

Edited to quote no one as it seems many are jumping on the "Kerry hates old people bandwagon".

I have to agree.. I think this political atmosphere has really riled people up and some are "attacking" just for the sake of having a disagreement. It seems many are reading into posts and getting upset when the intent to upset wasn't there.

I think we all need to take a few deep breathes and realize we are all in the same boat... worried, concerned and excited about the election andour candidates...that's it....We need to stop jumped down eachother's throats..."can't we all just get along"Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ladies -

Please, let's all try to keep our sense of humors in tact Today shall we? This is gonna be a very looooong day on the boards, at work, and at home.

If we are gonna jump all over people for the things that they are trying to post in what I belive was meant to be lighthearted in nature - imagine what today will bring when the harsher post and comments are made?

And we all know they will be made.

You're right - it will be a long day. And this is a I really cr@ppy way to start IMO. Probably a good lesson though that everyone should THINK about what they're posting before they post it.

Ditto!!!

I seriously doubt Kerry was elder-bashing or anything...she was just venting a little bit. Sometimes it seems you can't say ANYTHING on here without being attacked. IRL when someone vents -- do you begrudge your friends when they would say the same thing or just laugh and say "yeah that stinks". We get a bit too P.C. nowadays...sometimes you just got annoyed about something and it doesn't have to be a debate!

It's the nature of the beast. I knew she was in for it before I opened the thread. I got it once before too because I made a similar vent and everyone jumped down my throat too. Just reminds everyone that the net doesn't allow personalities to be read, just words.

In response to the OP, yeah, when you're in a rush, anything in the way is a PITA. Chat Icon

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!

yeah, I think this one went a little askew because I don't think the OP meant to bash old people. I do think the climate on this board has turned quite chilly.

Just playing devil's advocate here...anyone ever consider the fact that i bet most senior citizen's look forward to scheduled events like this? Some of us fantasize about our own retirements, traveling the world, etc. But the reality is that their life can sometimes be a little boring for most who don't have the means to enjoy it like we think they are or they should. And this is probably been on their calendar all year. A guaranteed event where they can still make a difference in the world, get out of the house and socialize with their friends. Because they don't get the opportunity every day. I don't begrudge their desire to participate even if it interferes with my desire to do the same.

I mean really, all they have to do today is vote

Seriously? That's what you think of senior citizens? My grandmother who will be 96 next week, just stopped working two years ago. DH's uncle is in his 70's and still works ... not everyone over 65 just sits around knitting or playing checkers.

beats me, but the Woodgate Community Center is too small to hold a polling place. I like it when its in a school, more parking, more space, etc

Wow! That's impressive.

People can go whenever they want, if I went in the am, I'm sure I'd be pretty annoyed at everyone else in line, just because I am not a morning person & commuting stresses me out as it is. But it's great that they are still voting. I don't think my Grandma still does.

Re: Why oh why so many old people!!

I don't care when they go. I think it's fabulous that anyone, regardless of age, votes. My grandma in Florida voted last week and she was so excited to do just that. As a senior citizen, she's quite a busy lady, too....for the person who commented they have nothing to do all day. LOL

The majority of male senior citizens have served in the military and many of the older ones in WWII...

I say that gives them the right to vote whenever they please and I, who have never served, will work around them.

Sorry, but I dont' think anyone helping the OP out is the "voice of reason". "The others to continue" are equally the people defending her and are perpetuating the "drama" just as much.

Call it drama if you want - but I have no pent-up pre-election anger. I don't "attack" people. I'm not overly PC. I've taken this situation on it's own into account and I've come away feeling that I just wish people would think about what they're posting before they post it.

And to the person who asked if anyone calls their friends on it when they "vent" - yeah, I might laugh off an off-color remark when it happens the first time, but it probably raises an eyebrow. The second time, I'm likely to say something. So I wasn't all to bothered by "why oh why so many old people" but when she continued with "what else do they have to do today" I found it distasteful and I said so.

I didn't even think about the Vets--I was just thinking that to make it to over 70, you've certainly put up with a lot more crap than I have, so go right ahead & vote whenever you want, I'll wait.
