wooping cough vaccine
Does the baby get the shot or do the adults get the shot? Is this a vaccine? My MIL came over and said she is going to have to get the wooping cough shot when the baby comes..... Any info would be helpful girls! TIA!

Re: wooping cough vaccine
The baby gets the vaccine, but at a later age as a series (DTAP). Baby is not protected until the series is essentially finished.
In that period of time, it is reccommended that close contact people get the vaccine to avoid passing the infection to baby. It looks like a regular cold in adults. I've had it.
I've had the vaccine... they can combo it with tetanus.

Re: wooping cough vaccine
they can give it you in the hospital if you want or i have heard some peds give it to parents - important to get because the baby is not fully covered for at least a year or two and it just sounds like a bad cough for adults but can be deadly to infants

I got it in the hospital. Babies get it as a series of shots (dTaP) at the peds office.

the hospital and pediatrician highly recommend that the adults get it (I got it in the hospital after I gave birth)

Re: wooping cough vaccine
This is a good question. I"ve been hearing more and more about this whooping cough and it's got me so nervous now. Can you still breastfeed if you are given the vaccine in the hospital?
