Re: Work or Stay Home

Yes, I would. But I couldn't do it forever. I think I would like to stay home for about a year.

I left my career to be a SAHM. I could never just "stay home". I would go crazy! I was home almost a month before DS#1 was born and I almost lost my mind. Chat Icon

Re: Work or Stay Home

My husband said that to me in August, 2 months before we got married - and I did. It's a big adjustment financially, but I love being at home. Dinner is always cooked, the house is (almost) always clean, and I'm a lot less of a b!tch come 6 p.m. As long as we can swing it, I'll stay at home, but I know I'll go back eventually.

Re: Work or Stay Home

DW quit her job to be a SAHM. We've already agreed that when the youngest starts going to school, she'll at least get a part-time job. She would go stir-crazy just "staying home".

He has & I've said no.

DH isn't the healthiest person - overweight, smoked for years. My worry is that at one point I will have to support my family on my own. To give up financial stabilty for my family isn't an option.

Re: Work or Stay Home

if i had kids, i would quit to be home with them (and i plan to when we have them) BUT if i didn't have kids yet... i would probably work part time.
i just think that a woman needs to have her own money/carreer and not be totally dependent on her husband. i've seen too many situations in my family with divorces and deaths where the wife had been staying at home, and then struggled to support herself financially after the divorce or death.
even if you don't need the money right now, you just never know whats gonna happen down the line, and its good to at least have some kind of income and work experience gonig on.

I did when I stopped working almost 2 years ago to become a sahm. But I'm starting my own home based business this year that I can keep small while they are home and grow as they go to school.

Re: Work or Stay Home

I would sooner switch career or job paths before I would sit at home all day. Perhaps I would do something I find more satisfying - especially if I didnt have to worry about an income. I'd have to leave the house on a regular basis in order for me to be able to contribute more to my marriage. Id have to have something to talk about with DH. I just keep thinking of Dr.Rey's wife on Dr. 90210. She is pretty and loaded and stays home. She doesnt look very happy to me. Id go buck nutty with cabin fever.

I did, but its because we had children. I would never want to do it if I had no other thing lined up. I need to keep busy, and I loved working, but I love being home with the kids more.

I stopped working when we relocated. I was already preggo. I love staying home. I love seeing DH as much as possible and being on his schedule.

I did for a year to be with my daughter and it was enough time.

I missed going out, socializing, etc.

Re: Work or Stay Home

Yes, but only for a little while, then I'd get antsy to want to go back to work, or volunteer my time to keep me busy.
