Re: Work or Stay Home
If we had enough $$ and DH said to stay home, I definitely would, but only if I had children......If possible, I don't want daycare to have my babies all day, I'd rather be there with them, if I can financially......

Re: Work or Stay Home
Not sure if I would stay home full time. I, like a few other ladies posted, spend as I choose, never being questioned. It's because I have a good job. I'm not ready to give up that "freedom". I'm also not ready to have children, so I guess I can't answer fairly.
I'm definitely down with working a few days from home and a few days in the office. I like getting out and I love the city. To work a few days from home would be the best of both worlds for me.

Re: Work or Stay Home
Nope.... I'm not cut out to be a SAHM. I was home with DS until he was 9 months old and I was miserable most of the time. I just don't like the expectation that I have to do all the cooking and cleaning bc I'm home. I enjoy going out every day and I appreciate the time with DS so much more now.
The only time I might consider being a SAHM is when my kids are school-aged. I just think that's when they are the most impressionable and need a little more guidance/structure. I still think I would work part-time or have a side business.

Nope, couldn't do it. I barely survived my maternity leave.
same here...and I am glad I am not alone. I need to be working, I love to contribute in the way that I do with my career. People come to me for decisions and ideas...
besides, I make much more money than DH, so it could never happen. He could stay home before I could...

Re: Work or Stay Home
Im home now. I left my FT job Dec. 22nd but still work a few hours at my PT job. If I were home all day I'd go nuts. As of the 12th Im officially done with work (Maternity). Im sure I will be working somewhere PT. Don't know if I can stay home ALL day.

No way! I love my job, and not for nothing, I don't need him to tell me it's ok. If I wanted to do it, I'd say it's ok. So, instead, HE stays home

Re: Work or Stay Home
I just quit my job last month to be a SAHM but that was because we have a toddler and another baby on the way. I really enjoyed working and I was making really good money but I hated missing all the moments and milestones. Now I'm enjoying the time alone with my DS before the baby comes. If we didn't have children I would want to work.

Re: Work or Stay Home
No, I can't imagine losing my salary ever. We could live on DH's alone, but we'd have to give up a lot of what we like to do...eating out, movies, concerts, vacations....And what I like to do...shop!

Re: Work or Stay Home
My DH actually gave me the option to stay home for about a year or so after our baby is born this June. I'm going back to work but may end up doing only part time. So my answer is I don't know.

If I had kids, then yes, but I would probably want to work at least part time.

Re: Work or Stay Home
DH is hoping that within 5-7 years of starting his firm that I'll never have a *regular* job again. IF I stayed home, I'd be writing to my heart's content and going back to school. But I'm not sure what I'll do if and when that time comes.

Re: Work or Stay Home
Yes but I would get a part time job doing something I loved ... I couldt deal with being home 24/7.
Id miss teaching terribly, but not the junk that goes along with it (getting up early, gradings, admins, observations, meetings...)

Re: Work or Stay Home
I was always told... "may you have your degrees and never have to use it...." I have beyond my Masters degree and work part time just to keep busy, DH told me I can stay home if I want to. If my boss retires I will , and when we have kids I willl be a SAHM. I have it good at my job, take off when I want to, home by 1 pm. Though I have had a hard life and would not mind being home full time. I enjoy cooking and taking care of the house etc.

Re: Work or Stay Home
Honestly-- I don't see how that is possible-- maybe if he came into a large sum of money or got a different job. I make more than him-- and while it's not much more, it's still more.
I think I would potentially like the flexibility after I have kids to make my own schedule, and be able to go back to work part-time and not really worry about having to bring in a certain amount of money-- but I certainly would not want to live hand to mouth in exchange for staying home. It's not worth it to me.

Re: Work or Stay Home
There was a time I would have said, Hell Yeah! We've talked about it, and could afford to let me stay home now, and when we have kids. However, I don't think I'd be happy in the long run. When I was laid off from my last job, I was going out of my mind being home. We've decided that I will take an extended maternity leave and after 6 months go back to work PT, I think I'll be much happier. Luckily in the job I have, I have that option.

NOPE
didnt work my azz off in school to stay at home
I totally agree. Plus, I love what I do so I wouldn't want to give it up. But, if we could afford it, I would work part time in a job that is perfect for me (regardless of money), I would get pregnant ASAP, and be a SAHM.

Re: Work or Stay Home
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ETA: I would love to stay home with my DD. I thought I would enjoy going back to work, which I do, but I would much rather be at home. I worked hard for a higher degree, designations and a position within a male dominated industry but would give it up in a minute to spend this precious time home with Molly.
