When DD was an infant, I used to go to bed between 8-9 and DH would do the 8-midnight shift and then I would do the rest. He leaves the house for work at 5:45am so I wouldn't expect him to do any more.

This is what we plan to continue doing when I go back to work in 6 weeks and is pretty much what we are doing now. DH leaves for work at 6:30 am.

I am Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon though that they start sleeping longer between feedings by then or I will die at work. Right now we have "bedtime" sometime between 7pm - 8pm (swaddled in bassinet and they go down pretty easily). They wake up again to eat around 11/12pm, then 2/3am and 5/6am. It takes me about an hour total to do the night feedings. If this does not change I'm not sure what we'll do.

So as of now I do all of the night feedings. DS "USUALLY" wakes up between 2-3 and then again between 5-6.
I go back to work in a month. Did you ladies share the responsibility of the night feedings with DH since now you both have to go to work???

Just wondering what everyone else does.

I'm still on maternity leave and DH would do the middle of the night feeding (2-4). Now that DS sleeps 5-6 hours straight DH doesn't do the 5-7 am feeding but he usually burps, changes and puts DS back down. That wakes up DH so he can start getting ready for work.

I've been back at work for 2 months, and I can't recall a single time that my DH got up and did the middle of the night feeding.

I ALWAYS did the 2-3 a.m. feeding, and pretty much always got up again at 5 a.m. for the next feeding.

Now DS STTN and on occasion my DH will get him first thing in the morning. We're still trying to work out a routine.

Re: working moms. Question about night feedings

ummmm no, i do it all Chat Icon

when she was first born and DH took off it was split 50/50

once he went back to work I did all the night feedings. we work in the medical field and we both agreed that its not fair to his patients if hes sleep deprived. also, im the type that will fall right back asleep after i feed her. DH wont fall back asleep for 2 hours. I dont want to deal with a grumpy DH bc he didnt get enough sleep the night before Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

sophia started STTN at 10/11ish weeks, and I went back to work when she was 14 weeks. shes started to experience some sleep regression over the past two weeks but I chalk that up to teething/congestion so shell usually wake around 4 or 5ish so ill give her 3oz to get her back to sleep. she usually goes to sleep around 10ish and is up for the day at 630-7ish. sometimes it upsets me that i have to do all the night feedings BUT when i lay down to go to sleep at night im out within 5 minutes. DH has a tough time with sleep. soo, in a way it evens out. he doesnt sleep because hes a poor sleeper, i dont sleep bc i take care of sophia Chat Icon

Re: working moms. Question about night feedings

When my DS woke up twice a night, my DH took the 1-3AM feeding and took the feeding between 3AM and 7AM. Once I went back to work at 8 weeks, DS was only waking up once around 3AM (and still is Chat Icon ) and DH always takes that feeding. I wake up to change his diaper (it takes two, he cries) and warm up the bottle but DH feeds, burps, and holds him for 20 minutes bc of reflux.Chat Icon
