Re: Would this annoy you?
It would bother me, but, I'd probably get over it. Since you're not close anymore, it'll probably be easier to get over. If you were family or really good friends and saw her everyday, then, I'd say it may take a while to get over.

Re: Would this annoy you?
It wouldn't bother me but we did not name our DD a name that a good friend named their daughter (which wound up being my DH's goddaughter) because we felt it would be weird to name our child the same as theirs.
But if someone named their child the same name as mine, I wouldn't really mind. I think my DD has a beautiful name and can see why people would also pick it!

Not at all. I don't have a copyright on that name.

whatever.. like she said.. I got no copyright on the name.

Not at all, unless it was a really unique name or a name I made up my self.
I agree entirely. If it was clearly a swipe of an uncommon name, then yes, I would.

Same. I'd be annoyed for about five minutes, but then I'd get over it.

No, my son is named after his father. It's a classic, pretty common name.

Ditto! While I didn't invent DD's name it is very uncommon and I would be a bit irked if someone close to me used it. If it were a very common name it might slightly annoy me but it wouldn't bother me nearly as much.
I have crossed names I loved off my list becuase someone close to me used them.

Re: Would this annoy you?
I don't think so, unless it was a very unique name. However, I come from a culture where it is the norm for all sons to name their children after their parents. In my family's case, my grandparents had 3 sons so all my cousins share the same name as my brother and I.

Re: Would this annoy you?
I don't think it would annoy me, but when my daughter was pregnant and talking about names (they were team ) we liked the name Andrew. Well my son in law said no way would he use that name. He has a cousin (who's much younger than he is and who he doesn't really see very often) but they have the same last name so he wouldn't do it. My daughter and I thought it was a ridiculous reason to not give the baby that name. Turned out she had a girl....and we'll see what happens when they have another baby.

Not with a name like Michael. With an unusual name, yes, it would bother me if it was a close friend.

If it was unique, yes i'd definitely be annoyed. Michael is one of the most common names, so no I wouldn't be.

No. Especially Michael. It was the 3rd most popular name in the entire country last year.

Re: Would this annoy you?
to be honest.. i proablly would be a little taken back. I mean i guess if its a common name i might not mind to much or if the name had a senitmental value to her as well but i love my friends name of her son but i wouldnt use it just because thats her sons name.. Its different for everyone though.

Re: Would this annoy you?
For me yes, I would be annoyed but my DS's name is unique, DH made it up. But it if was a common name, it may bother me for a hot second but then i'd get over it and move on. There is nothing you can really do about it so why dwell on it?

Re: Would this annoy you?
Nope, wouldn't bother me.
My DDs name is something I always wanted to name a girl if I had one. It has sentimental meaning to me.
DH's best friend has twin girls one of whom has the same first name. DH did ask if they would be annoyed, they weren't. But even if they said yes, we still would have named her what we did.

Nah wouldnt annoy me. BUT I have lots of friends that If i picked the same name as their dc's they would be seriously annoyed.
for example my sisters dd name is Hailey when i had my dd i wanted to name her to be Bailey my sister told me this is stupid to have our daughters name so much alike mind you it wasnt even the same name LOL i still joke about it with her
Is the name a popular name that she is choosing?? if you dont mind sharing
HA! I'm not fuming..but i guess just a little taken back. I thought it was an unwritten rule that you just don't do that..i know i never would...my DS's name is Michael (i know..not unique) and my friend said that she might name her new child Michael or Nicholas. We aren't super close anymore, but we used to be. I guess if I knew that she always LOVED the name Michael it wouldn't annoy me, but that's not the case. There are just so many names to choose from. I guess i'm in the minority..now i feel like a bi*tc*!!!! Anyway she had the baby yesterday, we were texting back and forth, and when i asked her the baby's name, she never responded...which makes me think she picked Michael.
1. No it wouldn't upset me
2. The name is MICHAEL?? That has been the #1 name for like 60 years!! It is such a popular name and so many people have that name

Re: Would this annoy you?
I realize the name Michael is EXTREMELY popular...but regardless, i personally would not choose the same name as my friends DC, UNLESS of course it was a sentimenatal name or it was a name i had ALWAYS LOVED. I'm over it. I was just taken back, because that is something I personally would never do. This is not something that is going to cause me stress and anxiety or change my friendship with this girl. I was just curiuos what others thought on the subject.

Re: Would this annoy you?
No... DH's cousin had our son's name on her top 5 list... I would have been ok if she named her son the same thing. Hey, it is a great name! She just had her baby and she named him an AWFUL name that I will now have to call him by Poor, poor boy :( I'd rather call him the same name a my son!
