Would this bother you( Ped related)
My SIL takes her 3 kids to the same Ped as Noah ( same last name).
His last visit, we get there and they said, we have no appointment for you. And I look up and my SIL is there with her son.
She said "oh whats funny is I called to change the appnt from one kid to another and they said we were double booked"( meaning, they cancelled Noahs appointment thinking it was my nephew twice" .
Weird, but ok, it happens.
So I went to go pick up his RX for vitamins before and I didnt check it till I got home. Well it had my NEPHEWS name on it.
So I call and sure enough its actually NOAHS RX but wrong name. ( a little annoyed at Target Pharmacy too, for not checking 1st name, but They RAN it through insurance???) I should have checked too.
I still am not too bothered by this, but would you mention this at the next visit? To have them be more careful or just let it go ( which is what Im inclined to do, but DH feels its a big deal)
TIA for reading!

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
I would def mention it at the next appt. You don't want them to confuse something that they are allergic to or something. If the address is different, I'm really shocked that they got them mixed up! They might have even ran your son's Rx through your sister in laws insurance!!

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
Yes it would bother me bc I would wonder what other info that had wrong in his files or in their files. If you like the doctor and don't want to change, I would talk to the doctor about it. These are sloppy errors on the part of the support staff and need to be addressed by the doctor or doctors if they care about their practice (and the kids). I would want to see his file to be sure they have the vaccination info correct.

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
I think I would mention it to the Dr asap..A call to let the Dr's office know is just a heads up to them that they need to be more careful..
Thats how even more serious mistakes are made..

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
I would just mention it at the next visit. There are plenty of kids with the same last name but I really don't think that should ever happen. When I worked at a Dr.'s office we have big "name alert" labels for patients with the same last name to remind you to double check.

And its a REALLY uncommon last name.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I didnt wanna feel stupid making a big deal out of nothing.

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
I would talk to them about it. There is another boy at our practice with the same name as my son. He is older than my son, which I know b/c they filled out my son's medical forms for school based on the other chart and the dates of the shots were all off by a few years. I had pre-filled in my son's birth date but I guess they didn't look at it, even though the chart has "Name Alert" stamped all over it.
The worst part is that my son has a severe food allergy, they cleared him for all foods, no need for any medications to be held in the office. Meanwhile I need to leave an epi-pen and benadryl just in case he has a reaction to something.
Hopefully both your son and your nephew don't have any issues, but imagine if you both needed rx's on the same day and they mixed them up when calling them in?
Sorry you had to deal with it, it is very frustrating.

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
I would clearly explain what happened in the next visit and voice my concern.
If they mix appt, medications, etc.. what's next? They write down vaccination schedules on wrong charts/files and either forget to give it to DS or give DS a vaccine he is not scheduled for or doubled?
This is a serious issue. It needs to be addressed.
Lots of people have the same last name. It is their responsibility to get it together. You cannot be worried they mix up files, prescriptions, medical history, health insurance billing, etc.. This is totally unfair and unprofessional.

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
I would most definitely say something to the dr. That happened to me when I lived in NY. I used the same ped. as my SIL (DH's sister so different last name) and DS's blood work ended up in off of my nieces or nephews file.

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
I would definitley say something to the ped and to the pharmacy. I go to CVS they will not hand you the bag until they ask your name and address. When confirmed, they release you the meds. Totally unnaceptable.

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
My husband is William C.
There is another guy, born in the same month of the same year who goes to the same primary physican's office as my DH. He is also William C, except the spelling of the last name is slightly different, but pronounced almost the same.
The doctor has mixed up the charts a few times, and my DH has picked up meds at the pharmacy with the wrong name on them before.
IMO it wouldn't be OK if the doc was making this mistake with a complete stranger, so it shouldn't be OK even though the mistake is being made with family members.
I would definately speak up!! They need to resolve this issue!!

I agree as well.
My husband is Chinese and has a very common last name for Chinese. I am not chinese and I get a lot of confusion when I say my last name. I've had to spell it SEVERAL times to get it right as there is a common name that sounds identical to my married name but is spelt differently.
I've had doctors and pharamcies mess it up and honestly, it *IS* a big deal. Its difficult for the pharamcy to catch conflicts in drugs if my name isnt right, plus my insurance has often questioned my procedures due to a mess up with my name.
Its a hassel, but now I always repeat an spell my name to everyone in the medical feild. I double check my appt cards, Rx and even glance over to my file/chart to be SURE the name is right. For my DD I have to do the same because *I* take her to the pedi and they assume it can't be a chinese name Plus now the new thing is to call Arianna - ADRIanna seems I am going to spend a loooong time double checking DD's info!
I'd mention it and I'd stick with it!
Good Luck

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
I would definitely call and speak with the doctor about that - it is a potentially very serious problem. If they are mixing up children they could also mess up the dosage, the medication etc. It is potentially a huge issue and something they need to correct immediately and should not be having in the first place - that spells to me that they are sloppy.

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
It is a big deal -
Regardless of whether or not Noah and your nephews have the same last name b/c they ARE related .......what if the last name was something fairl common, like Smith or Jones??
Or if god forbid you were picking up some type of serious meds and not vitamins?
Sometimes things happen (ie: The appointment mix up) but they are getting the perscription call ins from the chart ........so what? Are they reading the wrong patient's chart?? NOT accpetable -

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
ITA with everyone else. This is a big deal and you should absolutely get on the phone with the doctor and let them know that they're making serious mistakes with potentially DANGEROUS consequences!

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
It's not a big deal to me. It's a huge deal to me.
I wouldn't wait until my next visit. I would fax over a letter or write an email indicating that there was a conflict with appointments and, more importantly, a mix-up with prescriptions. While it's only a vitamin this time, next time it could be something MUCH more serious.

Re: Would this bother you( Ped related)
I think this a really big deal!
At my Dr's office they ask for my DD birthdate and then confirm first and last name.. It's a safety measure
I would suggest this to them since this has happen more than once and mixing rx's and filling out wrong medical records is really unacceptable and more importantly could be dangerous!
