Would you feel safer or more scared?
I'm walking thru Penn this morning on my way to the subway.
There is always a police presence in Penn so that is not unusual. But today I was seeing police in full SWAT gear (helmets, machine guns, vests...) and way more police than usual.
My mind instantly thinks something is up. But then I'm not sure if I feel safer because of the larger than normal police presence or a little more scared by it (thinking they know something I don't).
How would you feel?

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?
I totally understand what you are saying. I work in a building with Homeland Security and who knows? they could just be parking there to get their breakfast but whenever I see 10+ vehicles outside my building I make sure that I run to my car and get out of there.

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?
More safe. Would prefer more of a police presence then none at all.
ETA: Tonight is also the first night of Passover. Maybe this is the reason

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?
I get concerned when I see that. I wonder whats going on. Then I tend to see every other officer along my way, and think something must be going on.

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?
It always makes me more nervous.... But I was told that they often have drills or a certain number of days that they must show presence in Penn Station. (Not sure if this is true)
It also scares me when I see too many police dogs out in Penn.
I just want to get back on the train and go home!

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?
Just remember that sometimes they just up their presence at random times as a "show of force". It doesn't necessarily mean it's for any specific reason- just randomly done as a deterant...
I wouldn't be too concerned...

No, it's a planned thing... so I wouldn't be more concerned. They do this often, its a tactic.

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?
i saw that this morning when i came around a corner and came face to face with one of the guys in full gear, machine gun pointed down, while i had my daughter in tow........for a moment it made me worry about having her in the city today, but, i'm not going to worry about it tooo much, it is the way our lives are these days, sad but true

I was thinking the same thing.
I would feel safer, but at the same time I would be worried.

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?
It makes me a little nervous, but also safer, if that makes sense.
If I can pinpoint their prescence to something than I feel better. Like I know that because of Passover and Easter, that is why they have been around lately.

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?
Quite honestly, I wouldn't think anything of it. If anything, I'd think that there was some sort of training going on.

Safer. A lot of times it's part of their training.

Safer. There is a man robbing people at Subway Stations. Maybe that is why. They can't find him

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?
Feel safer---there is always a reason for it.
Sometimes it could just be training --- where they want the police in their riot gear and stuff.
And as someone else said, it could definitely be because its the first night of Passover.
Whenever there is any type of Jewish holiday, for the most part, you will notice there is always an increased police presence in NYC. Its all about safety.

I doubt it's that. There have only been 2 instances and one was in the Bronx, the other in Inwood.

This is unrelated and might be inappropriate but those men in swat gear with those big guns... it's all over for me when I see them. Hubba.

This is soldiers with full, decked out gear, with machine guns and dogs, not just regular police officers.

No no no. In ADDITION to soldiers there were a ton more police AND police in riot gear with machine guns.
The soldiers are there everyday, not just for "special occassions".
