Safer. There is a man robbing people at Subway Stations. Maybe that is why. They can't find himChat Icon

This is soldiers with full, decked out gear, with machine guns and dogs, not just regular police officers.

No no no. In ADDITION to soldiers there were a ton more police AND police in riot gear with machine guns.

The soldiers are there everyday, not just for "special occassions".

Weird, I am in Penn everyday, but have only noticed the soldiers the last week or so. I guess i need my morning coffee a little earlier Chat Icon

More often than not it makes me think something up. I realize they may be doing training but it's a reminder about terrorist attacks being a real possibility.

It makes me a little nervous, but also safer, if that makes sense.

If I can pinpoint their prescence to something than I feel better. Like I know that because of Passover and Easter, that is why they have been around lately.

I am the same way...so yes that makes 100% sense to me!

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?

I don't travel into Penn too often, so if I did and saw that I'd have to admit that it would scare the crap out of me!!!! But then I would try to convince myself that it was just a training exercise, and I'd pray that I was right!!

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?

I don't think it would make me feel safer or more scared but I do think it would heighten my sense of what's going on around me.

I might think something is up, therefore a stronger police presence.

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?

Increased presence, especially in full gear is a great deterrent for crime & terrorism...I'd feel safer.

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?

i usually feel more safe. in Penn they often have the SWAT, Army etc. for periodic beefed-up security. i think it's all about living in a post-911 world in NYC. Doesn't bother me, personally.

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?

I personally wouldn't feel safer. I would be more scared. My mentaility is that police officers/SWAT/army, etc. in full gear can't do much about a guy with a concealed bomb strapped under his coat.

Re: Would you feel safer or more scared?

I wouldn't feel scared. The added police presense is usually their show of force and doens't mean anything bad. This happens a lot at the SI ferry.
