Would you wake your dc to give them Tylenol while they're running a fever?

11 mo Ds has been running a fever since yesterday between 100 to 104.2. He just fell asleep but is due for a dose of Tylenol in 45 min. Should I wake ds to give it to him? He's also in need of rest and I'm worried if I wake him up, he'll be so cranky that he won't go back to sleep. That happened this morning Chat Icon poor baby is still active and wants to play even though he's miserable.....

I never did, I would always let them sleep and just give the meds when they woke up.

If its 101 and under, i won't waker her up. That is if I'm awake and can watch her. I'd check her temp every half hour. If it goes over 101.5 I will give her meds.

But she’s an old pro when it comes to meds. I slip the syringe in and give just a drop which usually make her open her mouth. I will put the meds against her cheek slowly so she can swallow when its too much. It takes longer but she stays asleep.

If she fusses then I do it faster and shush her back to sleep.

I’ve given her so much meds while sleeping that now she just wakes up enough to take it then goes back to sleep with no trouble. But now, as when she was younger, I let her ‘cook’. Fevers are burning out infection. Its scary but it’s the way the body fights back. If she’s asleep and comfortable and her body is doing its thing, I’ll let her cook. Over 101.5 though and I medicate her. And I ALWAYS give her meds before she goes to sleep with a fever even if it is only 100 because you never know how it can spike. And yes, when she has a fever, NO ONE sleeps well. Hubby and I switch off 3hour shifts to go in and check on her and her fever. Thankfully that has only happened a handful of times in her life. As she’s gotten older its gotten less and less.

Never wake a sleeping baby. If he's uncomfortable, he will wake up.

Depends. Normally I say no, but I've seen DS real sick when he's really flushed and feels like he's burning up then I'd wake him to give him the meds.
If your Ped allows I think Motrin works better and they say Tylenol inbetween. I've also put a cool washcloth on their head when they're real warm. DS has slept through it.

I always have, especially because fevers tend to spike in the middle of the night. I have always set my alarm, woken up, taken their temp and given meds if necessary. I am a worrier about those things. If their fever has been really high, I put them in bed with me.

If its 101 or under no. If its above I usually wake up to give it. I use the forehead thermometer and if its above 101 I would just fill the syringe with the medicine and see if i can get my child to take it while they are laying down, not necessarily actually fully waking them up, if you KWIM.

During the day, no. You are up to monitor him. In the middle of the night, with a high fever, yes (if they are warm when the med is due).

Depends on the temp. A fever isn't a bad thing. It's the body's natural way of fighting something off. I normally let DD sleep, but did wake her once when her temp had been upwards of 105 and I felt her while she was sleeping and she was burning up.

I wouldn't wake them, but I have given DD meds while she's sleeping. I just sneak the plunger in and squirt a little at a time near her cheek and she takes it no problem without waking!

During the day no.
At night it depends on how high the fever is and how well the meds are getting it down. For example: For a 102 temp without meds prob not. but my dd has had as high as 104-105 that only goes down to 102 with meds, Then I would for sure wake her

No, I never did. I would let them sleep and gave it to them as soon as they woke up.

Re: Would you wake your dc to give them Tylenol while they're running a fever?

Yes, but only if the fever was really high. DS had the fever virus when he was a year old and his fever was spiking to 104.9, so I set my alarm for every 45 minutes to check him. His temps were really high at night so I woke him to give Motrin.
