WWYD - kissing newborn baby

Yesterday some friends met my Chat Icon For the first time. I was absolutely shocked when one kept kissing my DD on her lips! I don't even kiss her on the lips! I didn't know what to say but I feel really uncomfortable with this and I want to be prepared if it happens again. I don't want to offend this person but I really don't want her or anyone else doing this to DD. How do you politely say don't kiss my daughter on the lips?

I think you just have to say it, but to everyone.

Maybe as they all walk in say: "Ok, remember the rules, wash your hands and arms, and kisses only on the top of DC's head. Thank you!"

Re: WWYD - kissing newborn baby

I would've just been like "STOP THAT!!!!" and flipped on her and blamed the mommy hormones. I kiss DD on the lips sometimes when I miss her check when she's wiggling, but it's not on purpose. And the week I had a sore throat when she was just a few weeks old, I didn't even breathe on her! I created like a little bib mask for myself to try to keep from contaminating her. I guess it worked because she didn't get sick.

You should never, ever feel uncomfortable telling someone what NOT to do around / with your child. I was at the grocery store and someone tried to touch her and I basically pulled the whole cart away and then laughed and said "oh, new mommy instinct -- I really don't want anyone touching her, it's not you" and the person didn't seem insulted. She actually totally seemed to understand and then apologized for trying without thinking.

Kissing a nb on the lips is ridiculous. I'm annoyed for you!!!

This is the best advice. You just have to get to the point. Short & sweet is best. I don't know why people even want to do this to other people's kids.

Thanks! I like this a lot! Maybe I can also blame it on the doctor like I blame everything else!

Re: WWYD - kissing newborn baby

I would nicely ask them to please stop kissing her, she is a newborn and there are just way too many things floating around this time of year. If she gets offended, so be it, you and DD are the ones that will suffer if she gets sick so young.
