WWYD Summer Plans
DD will be 6 this summer (going into 1st grade) and we are trying to plan a summer program for her. Our school district has a summer program ...5 hours , 5 days a week, NO air conditioning at all for 6 weeks for $600.00. We can also participate in the RVC program which is 3 hours 5 days a week, AC inside the building/ split with going outside , 6 weeks for $495.00.
I am a SAHM so I am not pressed into getting full time care. My son already has a summer program planned out. Thing is my daughter has a friend and her mom would like to see her daughter and my daughter together in the $600.00 program. Am I wrong for putting her in the $495 program because of the AC? I am willing to have her meet up with her friend for play dates and such. Also we can add on an activity here and there for a small extra fee to extend a day by 2 hours here and there.

Re: WWYD Summer Plans
I know my daughter and she'd want to be with her friend regardless of AC or price. So in my case I'd put her with the friend. To her, that's more important than anything.
But if you daughter really doesn't mind either way, then go for the one you wanted and make a point to make play dates so she can see the girl

I'd ask your daughter what she wants to do. Give her the options.
My 8 year old is going into 3rd grade and my 6 year old is going into 1st and both of them have no problem telling me what they want to do.

I’d ask your daughter too. Lay it out for her and let her decide.
My DD goes to our district summer camp too without A/C but I keep her home on the really, really hot days.

Re: WWYD Summer Plans
Our town camp doesn’t have AC. It’s fine. Kids never ever complained. Let her choose.

Re: WWYD Summer Plans
I know how hot it gets at school at the end of the year, and my daughter comes home pretty much lethargic, so I probably wouldn't send her to a non a/c school building for a Summer if I didn't *have* to. I would choose the a/c place, but you know your child best.

Re: WWYD Summer Plans
I wouldn't pick plans based around someone else. We have always done the town/school district (no AC camp). My boys do fine without AC. We usually go swimming at the pool after camp.
As an aside, your DD is turning 6 years old going into third grade? My about to be 6 year old is in Kindergarten. Maybe ask her opinion about which she wants to do?

Lol - i see the OP said she made a mistake but my dd was 7 for the first few months of 3rd grade! Late birthday kid!
And my younger daughter will turn 7 in 1st grade. Crazy to me!

Re: WWYD Summer Plans
Knowing how hot schools get I wouldn't do the one that is 5 hrs in heat 5 days a week.
My kids will do a program in summer at one of elementary schools but they just go for 4 days like 2 hrs a day.

Re: WWYD Summer Plans
My kids camp, which is mainly outdoors, doesnt have AC, its summer camp. I would hope they are spending it outdoors and not sitting inside AC or not. They are kids and its summer vacation, they dont need AC. they need to have fun with their friends.
