The governor of Maryland said once 70% of adults are fully vaccinated, he will fully lift all mask mandates. My guess is the tri state area will do something similar...we are at 60% here in NY so it shouldn't be too much longer until we hit that.
That makes more sense. You can't police who is vaccinated and who is not in public.
This does make sense but do we really think Cuomo is going to lift ours anytime soon???!!!
I do believe however now that the CDC says it if the local government lifts the masks rule I feel like retail stores will probably not enforce masks anymore. I feel like retail stores are following what the CDC says because they believe some governors don’t really believe in what’s going on. But that’s just my opinion.
Like I predicted Walmart has lifted mask requirements for those that are vaccinated basically in any state that has gotten rid of their mask mandate
So how do they enforce this? Ask you to show proof at the door? OK let's say they do- even though that would cause a huge back up getting in- especially on a busy weekend or Holiday season- but let's assume that. The Walmart greeter is now promoted to the mask police. Checks your vaccine proof or lack thereof and off you go. Then you get into the store. You aren't vaccinated so you have to wear your mask. You get down aisle 7 and whip that bad boy off like your bra at the end of a long day. Who's going to stop you?
I have to reread the article but I think it said Walmart didn’t make it clear how they would but my guess is it will be the honor system.
I guess it’d be the same as people that can’t wear masks because of medical reasons. They can’t ask them for proof, they can’t even ask them what’s the medical reason. So I’m assuming the same would apply to vaccinated people, they can’t ask for vaccination records.

I did hear this morning that Disney hinted about going to no masks.
Really? That’d be great! We were planning to go again next year but if they won’t require masks anymore, we might go earlier!
FL is open anyway, so I guess they will be next.
I hope cause when we went this past Feb, they were so strict! Like u couldn’t even walk WHILE eating without a mask.
So do they expect you to eat with a mask on? Maybe puree your food and cut a hole in the mask to insert a straw? Disney is a customer of mine and this doesn't surprise me one bit. They'll be making you walk around in masks for the next 3 years, just watch.
Disney just lifted mask mandates for outside common areas. You have to wear them on attractions and through out the wide and an indoor shows. Can be taken off when stationery and eating while indoors ... lol why that part had to be said I don’t know how else would you be eating
It looks like most Major companies will follow what the CDC is suggesting as long as that state allows it.
Let’s see how long Cuomo takes lol

Wasn't there just an article about several players on the Yankees who were all vaccinated but still got COVID? I am still trying to understand the logic behind getting rid of masks if both vaccinated and unvaccinatrd can still get it?
One player and seven other staff members who all received the J&J shot tested positive. Only one was mildly symptomatic. The rest probably wouldn’t have known had there not been regular testing or contact tracing from the mildly symptomatic case. Overall, the vaccine looked like it was doing what it was supposed to in preventing more severe infection, but that vaccine also has a lower efficacy rate.
I agree that maybe we shouldn’t rush into lifting mask restrictions yet until more people are vaccinated and we have a better idea of whether the virus, especially certain newer variants, can be spread among vaccinated individuals.

So do we have to show our papers everywhere we go. It sounds very familiar to a time in history that this was mandatory thing. I know i see it.
Glad you do as others seem to be ignoring this.
This is one of the most offensive things I've ever seen on this site. The long term goals of this situation vs what you're referring to are completely opposite.
You want to compare it to something, compare it to needing to carry a driver's license to operate a vehicle. You need a license bc getting behind the wheel of a car without a license can affect the health of people around you.
So your ok with the government obviously gaining more and more control in everything you do? I'm certaintly not blind too the agenda behind it all
Please explain what the agenda is and while you're at it, can you explain to me in what way the government is gaining more and more control of what I do bc I don't find that to be the case at all.
Not my words, but really sums it up.
“For months "experts" have been telling us that the science shows we must still wear a mask (indoors and outdoors) and social distance even if "vaccinated." This in significant part resulted in people refusing to get the "vaccine," as it did not deliver any semblance of a return to the normalcy people craved.
People have been bribed with free money, free college and free food to try to increase "vaccine" acceptance. People have also been excluded from normal life activities, punished and even barred from an education in order to compel "vaccine" acceptance. All of these efforts have failed to achieve the desired compulsory goal.
As a result, the CDC suddenly does a 180 degree reversal and now proclaims that if you are "vaccinated" you no longer have to wear a mask indoors or outdoors and the President states that if you get "vaccinated" you have earned the right to take your mask off. Meanwhile there are so many breakthrough Covid cases (ie. the Yankees) that discredit the "vaccine," our government has decided to stop counting them.
All of this is NOT about science, it's about CONTROL. The "vaccine" is in reality an experimental drug approved for emergency use only, with untold and unknown side effects. Our Government should stop lying to us and start telling the truth and acknowledge that we the people have dominion over our own bodies.“

I don't really understand why they would remove the mask mandate now. Wearing a mask is not a big deal and until we are at numbers that are extremely low, why not just continue to wear them? Putting a bunch of vaccinated adults in an arena with a bunch of unvaccinated kids also makes absolutely no sense. Also, the efficacy of the J&J vaccine is less than 70% That means more than 3/10 people will still get covid if exposed. Yes, they will probably have little to no symptoms, but they will still be able to spread it to unvaccinated people (some of whom can not be vaccinated due to medical conditions). What is the big deal with just wearing a mask while indoors for the remainder of the year? I can understand not wanting to wear it in 90 degree heat while standing online at disney, and I never really thought outdoor masks made much sense. But in places like the mall or grocery store, everyone should still wear a mask.
Suffolk County was at 1.1% yesterday. I think that is pretty low, no?

The problem is we are not testing vaccinated people for Covid or antibodies. I guarantee if you tested a large portion of vaccinated people there would be some who have Covid and some who no longer have antibodies.
Why don’t some of the healthy asymptotic people go randomly get tested for Covid or antibodies before attending a large event and report back your results. I’m curious. Since the scientists aren’t doing this....at least I haven’t seen or heard a single person locally who has been asked to be part of any studies.

It is low but I wonder what the normal flu rate is. I would assume even lower. Also, it’s not like our borders are closed and there are still worldwide outbreaks. Personally I don’t think we are getting rid of covid ever because it will always find a way to come back in and I don’t think people will continue to get the vaccine when it’s not in the news day in and day out. I just would rather see them keep the mask mandate a little longer and let everything reopen 100% as per normal because to me the mask was never a big ask. And before everyone says things are open as normal they are not. There are still long waits at restaurants near me, many schools in NJ are still on hybrid schedules and sporting events are still at limited capacity to name a few. My opinion is you let everything open completely with masks and then let go of the masks.

At this point knowing this will never go away, and people will decide if they will continue to get the vaccine, let the decision upon masks and distancing be another individual thing. Again my opinion and I wouldn’t tell someone they shouldn’t wear a mask if they feel comfortable to (again though if no one is around it makes no sense to wear one, speaking mire being around people).

I agree with this. Our numbers are great right now and warrant much more to be opened. I also think it's ridiculous that any school, anywhere, is still hybrid. While I am huge supporter of the vaccine, mandating it is a lot to ask of people that are truly uncomfortable getting it. The mask outrage is silly, IMO, and I agree with you that perhaps we should continue them for a short while while 100% reopened, then the more time passes without variants taking hold or new surges, phase them out. Numbers are great- but they were great June- september 2020 as well and then the fall/winter surge hit. This isn't over- it's almost over, but we aren't quite there yet. And while I hate the masks and hate the restrictions, what i would hate even more is prematurely lifting anything and then us all being stuck where we were March- May of 2020. Nothing open, remote school, stuck at home. Nobody wants to go back to those dark days. Allowing people to choose if they want to socially distance makes absolutely zero sense. It doesn't work if a bunch of people are still on top of other people. The selfishness of some people just astounds me. Where is compassion and caring for others?

You do know that people are doing this in FL and TX (people on top of one another) and they are doing fine. The bandaid will have to be ripped off eventually as like we all have said this virus is not going to just disappear as it is part of the coronavirus that has been around forever.

The issue I have is that the CDC guidance is only to entice more people to get the vaccine. Given the fact that the efficacy of the J&J is fairly low compared to Pfizer and Moderna, but we are treating all vaccinated people equally, I find that strange. Also, how about lumping in people with positive antibody tests as they probably have the same chance of getting covid as someone who has the vaccine? They won't, because then people with antibodies won't get vaccinated. It's all one big push for everyone to get everyone vaccinated. What would make more sense is open everything 100% and continue the masks, indoors, for a few more months and see how it goes. I don't believe they are "following the science" here. I believe they are writing a narrative to get more people to take the vaccine.

No more masks for vaccinated people..... Indoors and outdoors
The CDC really f'ed this up. They should be fired. What should have been said is once an area hits herd immunity THEN the masks can come off. No one has to show they have the vaccine so what is the incentive to get it done. Absolutely none. I am all for people's choice but why did we waste all this time quarantining and masking if they were going to let it up before it was time. I already know people who are not vaccinated who tossed their masks away and are out and about. No one can ask them so why shouldn't they. This was all a complete waste of time.

But where can they go maskless right now? NY still has it's mask mandate.

Almost everywhere. I had people say on Facebook they were at Target, Costco, Trader Joes, Stop and Shop. Only one said they were asked to put a mask back on and the adult said they are following CDC rules so try to make us leave. The manager walked away.

Wow. That's crazy. But yeah, THIS is why that was a stupid and reckless statement by the CDC. But that doesn't surprise me at all

Coumo hasn’t even said what he will do but people think the CDC overall rules him I guess. I was actually hoping that when I went to get my pedicure today they wouldn’t have them on. No such luck lol

Your original statement is spot on. They really shit the bed with this one.
Also yes, the amount of people on Facebook putting together mass calling to cuomo to follow the cdc guidelines and then boasting how they aren’t vaccinated and don’t plan on anyway. I’ll be walking around with a mask for a while - I can’t trust anyone

Trader Joe’s said they will not ask if you are vaccinated. I am sure after awhile most places won’t as how can they follow you once you are in the store shopping?

That's all great but NY and NJ have yet to remove the mask mandate so technically it's still to be enforced. Just because the CDC or President makes a statement doesn't automatically make it a law.

Exactly and most don’t get that. I will have my mask on for every store I go to or restaurant or wherever else that requires it right now. Funny as they just put up on a place we plan to go to next weekend that nothing has changed as I am sure people are coming in to the bar/restaurant saying they don’t have to wear a mask.

Re: No more masks for vaccinated people..... Indoors and outdoors
Things that are hysterical with this thread
1. Everyone’s waiting on orders from the biggest low life piece of $hit in NY. The same jack ass who caused all the nursing home deaths and the outrageous death rate. And there’s an air of acceptance about it... Now add the abuse towards women and cover ups... Still no one mentions any of this as it would be with a Republican... But yes, go by what his grace commands you and nothing matters until He says so
2. The CDC sucks. Asks any actual medical professional. They’re the ones who told you masks were completely unnecessary to begin with and told medical professionals to intubate COVID patients wearing a friggin bandana.
3. None of you have the right to call anyone selfish. Selfish is believing you are always right. Let’s talk about all the “perfectly safe” medications we’ve come to find out years later have terrible side effects. No ones wrong for choosing caution in any way choosing caution can possibly mean. In the same sense no ones wrong for living life the way they choose. If you’re at higher risk then go ahead and wear your N95 everywhere, but you don’t have the right to force others to take experimental vaccines any more than they have the right to tell you to stay the f home.
