4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
OMG- I have not had more than a 5 hour stretch of sleep since last June. Yes, I am still BFing and no, she has not started solids. The doctor really wants to wait til 6 months- and I am very comfortable with that.
For awhile I THOUGHT she was getting it. Then we had to stop swaddling her. Once she got used to that, she started rolling over to her belly and THAT was waking her. She finally started sleeping on her belly (which I THOUGHT would help her sleep longer) and she STILL wakes up at least once, usually twice a night!!
I've tried letting her fuss for 5 minutes, SOMETIMES that works. If she continues fussing/crying, I go in and just rub her back- sometimes THAT works, but other times she gets PI55ED. So I usually pick her up and try to just soothe her back to sleep.
NOPE- she literally has a temper tantrum when she realizes I am not there to give her the breast. I swear, she beats her little fists on my chest and throws her head back SCREAMING. Finally I break down and feed her.
PLEASE- will she EVER sleep through the night? Does anyone elses little one still wake like this?

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
I have no real advice, but many babies do not sleep through the night especially if you are EBF. Nursing is so comforting for them and they want to be comforted back to sleep. My son started sleeping through the night at about 13 months, but now he still wakes up sometimes in the middle of the night. My son has always been pretty demanding in terms of BF too.

My DD is 14 months and still does not consistently sleep through the night and lots of babies don't. Sorry, I wish I had better advice.

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
DS is the same age (june 14) and STILL waking at night too.
He goes down between 8-8:30/9 and wakes 1-2am for a bottle then goes to sleep again till 6/7am.
we had ONE NIGHT where he slept for 7.5 hours.
AND he's getting cereal twice a day and we just started veggies/fruits
ETA: AND he's sleeping on his belly

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
Please tell me when you figure it out.
DS started doing full nights about 3 weeks ago... for 1 WEEK. Then went back to waking up at 1am and 4 am. He turned 4 months last Monday.
He actually wants to sleep in my bed next to me. He puts his hand on me to make sure I am there. Cute and not cute at the same time. If I try to put him back in his crib, he will cry again. So, it's back in my arms until he is back asleep.

I'm sorry, sounds like she just loves your comfort right now, which isn't exactly a good thing for you in the middle of the night. Sorry, no advice, just

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
The only thing that has worked for us (last night she slept from 6:30 pm-7am straight through) is adding rice cereal to her formula. I know you are EBF'ing, so your DD probably is waking up for comfort and b/c she is hungry.

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
Thanks ladies- I needed some encouragment and others to tell me that she's not the only 3am partier at her age.
I am blessed- she is an angel- even when she's up at night. I guess I'm just surprised that we are still going through this. At night she has NO set schedule. Sometimes she wakes up at 12, sometimes at 3, sometimes she's up 2 hours after she was last fed.
Thanks again- you are the best!!!

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
my BF DS made a good turn around 6 months. Now he sleeps 10-12 hours straight every night. Be patient and consistent, it will come...
I kept pumping overnight to keep up with him so I still haven't slept more than 6 hours since he was born in Jan

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
Solids didn't help us. For like, the first two nights that DS had cereal it helped, but after that it stopped.
When DH took DS to his 5 month appointment, the doctor told us that we had to cut out any feedings between 11pm and 5am. That he would readjust his eating schedule and eat more during the day that way instead of taking 3 bottles a night.
And I thought it was going to be horrible, and after the first couple of days (just like my ped said ) it has really been fine. I do feed him after 4am though, a lot of nights he has his last bottle before or around 7pm, so I feel that is long enough and it works for us since DH comes home at 3am and they both sleep until 9am-ish.

I want you to know that your post about what your doctor told you is what inspired me to ATTEMPT to try not to feed her overnight. Seeing that you've had success makes me feel better.

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
oh i feel your pain! i EBF - DD is 4 months old too and that was what was happening to me too. i would cry to DH that i haven't slept more than a few hours since before her birth-that broken sleep is the worst! she was going down at 7pm waking once by midnight to eat, then like 3am then again like 6am-and sometimes crying for the binky in between. about a week ago though and i am probably jinxing myself i decided to let her fuss more before i ran in. this helped a little. then i also kept the monitor on very low so i didn't jump up at the slightest move. she woke for one less feeding. then we started cereal and now doing it twice a day. she is sleeping a lot better (fingers crossed) she goes down at 7ish and wakes only around 4/4:45 to eat. i will not feed her before that time if she stirs unless she was screaming her head off-i just pat her back to sleep. it' like she realized it's not fun to be awake at night anymore. i really don't know what happened to make it so much better. i am SO GRATEFUL and am answering this post to give you hope b/c out of the blue it can get better-and worse too (have to remind myself of that) good luck it will get better!

No advice really because my DD didn't sleep through the night until 6-7 months. Just remember it will get easier, I promise.

It did work. The first week was hard, and I did take the advice of some ladies on here and will give him like, an oz of water if he is totally inconsolible, but since your DD is EBF (she is, right?) that really won't help, but we've only done that a couple of times anyway.
The pacifer really helps too...and his blankie.
As I am writing this he is in his crib laughing at something and not napping, so maybe my advice isn't the best

At almost 8 months, unfortunately, Taylor is still not sleeping through the night either. I posted yesterday about crying myself to sleep the other night due to frustration.
Hope it gets better for you

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
My son is 5 months old, and started sleeping through the night at 2 months. He is bottle fed, and started solids at 2 1/2 months...BUT....
for the past couple of weeks, he is waking up like crazy...we usually just give him the binky, and he goes back....last week, he had the stomach virus, so of course was up from the sooo many times....
I have heard that around this agge though, sleeping through the night gets harder, I guess because of teething and such....so sorry, no advice....but it could also be the age that she is at now

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
My DS is 4.5 months old and wakes up 4 times per night. I'm so tired, it's really affecting my personality. I'm cranky all the time. He eats at 8pm, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and then around 6-7am. So should I let him just cry it out for the 12,2 & 4? I've tried that and he's inconsolable until we put the bottle in his mouth.

Re: 4.5 months and STILL not sleeping through the night....
I am with you! at almost 5 months EBF we're getting up 2x a night. There are nights when I won't feed her at one of those times and just rock her back to sleep. Usually it was just some gas that woke her up in the 1st place. But, since we're EBF, it's inevitable that they're not sleeping through the night.
What I suggest and what we're going to try is having your DH go in and try to rock her. IMO - they KNOW we've got the boobs!! So I'm making DH go in there hoping she realizes she's not getting a boob and will allow him to rock her back to sleep.
But at this point, I've given up trying. She's going to do what she wants and just when I get used to something, she'll switch it up again. A few nights she slept all night and I was in heaven thinking this is it!! But then the next 2 nights she was up every 2 hours, then after that nonsense for a few days, she went back to 2 feedings.
I give up!

Do you mean AM? That is a lot of feedings, how many oz does he take? How many bottles does he take before 8pm?
The reason why my ped said no bottles between 11pm-5am was that DS would eat 3x during the night, then not again until like 1pm! So, he gave us that rule and I came on here and asked for advice since my DS was inconsolable until we gave him a bottle too. Someone suggested water and it totally worked. We don't even have to do it anymore and it has only been 3 weeks total that we have been doing this

I don't think Jack will ever sleep straight through the night to be honest. I just have a feeling that he won't.
