you guys are talking aobut 2 different pills...there is a difference between the "abortion" pill and the MAP.
going back months, how is this different then that drug ur486 (i forget the name of it) but NY passed a law allowing pharmacys to give it out any anybody requested it...what does that drug do?
so all this pills stop the pg process at various different points
The Emergency Contraception Pill, or morning after pill, is a pill that is available as a combination of estrogen-progestin, or progestin only (Plan B is one brand name of this). These are the exact same medications that are contained in normal, daily, birth control pills. They work to inhibit ovulation, fertilization, and implantation of the egg in the uterus. Emergency Contracpetion does not work if a fertilized egg has already implanted (i.e. the woman is pregnant). The pill can be used within 72 hours of sex to prevent a pregnancy. RU-486, or abortion pill, is a pill taken in combination with prostaglandin. Ru-486 is a high dose of mifepristone, which works to block the creation of progesterone, a hormone that is necessary to create and sustain pregnancy. This triggers the uterus to shed its lining and opens the cervix. 2-7 days later, misoprostol is given to cause the uterus to contract and expel the embryo. It can be used within 49 days since the last menstrual period as a medical abortion.

Re: The Morning After Pill
You would still need a percription. so you would be calling your Ob and have to explain it to them. Maybe they could make it where you have to come in and get checked to recieve it.

That's a different point. It certainly doesn't sound like your earlier post.
"I doubt that. It can't be too far because its a public service. Call 911... have an ambulance truck you to the nearest hospital.
Besides... people are talking about the rape word when using this pill. Frankly... if you are raped... you should be going to the hospital anyways and not going to walmart."
I was talking about the rape word because people before me were saying if they were raped... they won't be going to the hospital and they should have the luxury of getting the pill locally.
They should!
if you do this, it goes unreported for sure and crazy sex raping people stay on the streets to get more victims
in life, luxury is not always an option

You can't compare a medication to a DVD.
What if they decided not to stock a blood pressure medicine, or a heart condition medicine and people wouldn't have access to it. Should they be allowed to sue?

But if a company makes a CORPORATE decision to not stock a product (whether it be a pill, a game, a video, a DVD, whatever)... they should not be sued over it.
but state law says different. Wal-mart has already made a provision in illinois to carry EC because it was the state law.

I am actually very interested to see what happens with the suit because I find it hard to believe that in the area they are talking about, this is not a commonly prescribed drug.

So WalMart is NOT doing anything illegal here. They are totally staying within the laws guidelines.
Unless this lawsuit is based out of Illinois... then in that case WalMart is breaking the law.

Re: The Morning After Pill
This is semi-graphic, so please don’t read if you don’t want to.
I’m also posting anonymously for obvious reasons. I was 13 years old when someone I worked with where I volunteered sexually assaulted me.
He started first by trying to touch me when we had taken some of the kids we worked with to a theme park. He snuck his way into my seat on those “swings” that take you across the park in the air. While we were up there he tried to touch my breasts. Luckily (?) I had also grabbed one of the kids we were watching and she was in the middle, so I was able to get him to stop. After we “landed” I ran away from him.
I thought it was over.
About a week later I was setting up for arts and crafts while the kids were on the playground. He came into the gym and asked why I didn’t like him. I tried to leave and when I did, he pushed me up against the wall between the bleachers and told me he loved me. Then he tried to kiss me. I tried to push him away, but he was a lot bigger than me and he pinned me and told me if I screamed, the kids would come running and I would be responsible for hurting them. I stupidly listened. While he didn’t get to “actually” rape me, he did manage to penetrate me with his hand, ripping my hymen and causing me to bleed.
As we heard the whistle and the kids coming back, he stopped and left the gym. I told the counselor I worked for that I was sick and had to go home, and walked the 2 miles to my house in pain.
I never turned him in. I regret that now. But I was 13 and scared – they only thing I was thankful for was that there was no chance of pregnancy. If there was, I would have been extremely thankful for the morning after pill because there was no way I was going to a hospital or the police.
I never told my parents, my sister, or even any friends - only DH really knows the whole thing.
It’s scary and painful and the last thing you would want to worry about is whether you could get the medication you need to ensure you didn’t get pregnant.

Nope. Find another store. We live in the world of the internet. Hundreds of vendors to choose from. You can have medications. insulin, heart condition stuff drop shipped to your door now.

no, walMart is is the wrong because they are not abiding by Mass law. In all honesty i think the lawsuit was just a way to get Walmart to follow the law.

Some people dont want to buy off the internet because they find it shady and that it leaves to much room for their meds to be tampered with.

I actually agree with your main point, Pill. I think the law is not specific enough in this case.

First off- Some people can't find another store. In NY metro area that's easy. But some places are very rural, and not everyone has a car.
Also- it takes time to get meds over the internet. The Morning after pill has to be taken pretty quickly after the intercourse.

I actually don't agree with the law. I don't think anyone but a doctor should prescribe the M.A.P. - I've heard it has horrible side effects and not something that should be "readily available"
Speaking from experience, it DOES. I was in college and the condom broke, so I got the MAP from the infirmary. I took the first pill and felt fine, but then, I took the second pill. I went to sleep and woke up about 2 hours later vomiting profusely and I ended up passing out while puking. THANK GOODNESS I was with my BF at the time. He carried me all the way to the infirmary, while passed out. When I got there, I woke up, puked and passed out. For about 10 hours I would just wake up, dry heave and then pass out... it was one of the worst experiences of my life. I was absolutely terrified to go on the pill after that experience

Agreed. The law is not clear cut. It will be up to the court to decide whether Walmart must stock the morning after pill. IMO, it should be readily available. Of course there's potential for abuse, but I believe the benefits outweigh the potential abuse.
