I really do think this lawsuit is a matter of principle. Whether or not you agree with the principle is a whole other story...
sure is since its not about money... but is two different stories...the women who are mad walmart doesn't carry it and walmart saying, its not a readly available drug....
and now we are back to page 1

Can we get back to the argument about the Pill
PMaybe you guys can start a second thread to argue condoms break v. get yourself tested
WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't thinkWalmart should be sued. I agree... and I think that it's disgusting how a lot of people look for holes in the law to gain a dollar.
This isn't about money. These people are asking the court to compel Walmart to stock the morning after pill, not to award them $. I get it now... sorry, I was being lazy in reading the article, and had rather read the drama on the posts...

Which was your original point I believe. That a woman who gets raped should go to the hospital right away to get the morning after pill.
My original point was... if a woman needs to get the MAP.... she should go to her nearest pharmacy. If she has no other choice because there is nothing nearby... if she needs the bill bad enough she has to go to the hospital.
WalMart should NOT be sued for not stocking a particular medication. That actually was my original point.

I dont understand something. This pill is not hte abortion pill, its the morning after pill...which works similiar to birth control. Why is it that walmart has no problem dispensing the latter? Also, just for the record, walmart DOES INDEED fill prescriptions for Viagra.
My guess is that many people do believe the morning after pill to be abortion - the egg may have been inseminated, but has not yet had a chance to implant.
I think this pill would stop that. It wouldnt allow any sperm to get to the egg.. IF it was taken within I think within 12 or 24 hours. ( thats how long it takes for the sperm to even get anywhere).. I feel like im tlaking on the TTC boards now.

Not if you took the pill as soon as your accident happened. It takes a man's sperm 4 hours to capitulate (I think I butchered the spelling of that) Sperm can not inseminate the egg until that capitulation happens.
After your question, I looked it up online and found this:
The emergency contraceptive/morning-after pill has three possible ways in which it can work (as does the regular birth control pill):
1.) Ovulation is inhibited, meaning the egg will not be released; 2.) The normal menstrual cycle is altered, delaying ovulation; or 3.) It can irritate the lining of the uterus so that if the first and second actions fail, and the woman does become pregnant, the human being created will die before he or she can actually attach to the lining of the uterus.
In other words, if the third action occurs, her body rejects the living human embryo, and the child will die. This result is a chemical abortion. (Abortion is an act of direct killing that takes the life of a living preborn human being—a life that begins at fertilization.)

Re: The Morning After Pill
I wonder if there would be a way to keep track of who gets the pill and when?
If you see someone is abusing it then you could have them see a doctor to get it?

im not an expert but doesn't the this pill (you can take within 5 days) just kill any process of pg that is going on or just starting and not needed to take as soon as it happens?

Once fertilized it takes an egg 5-12 days to implant in the uterus, this pill will help stop implantation. Without implantation, its my opinion that there is no life.
Watch out...2.5+ years of infertilty research is gonna come out soon.

No beef but can I just ask where that came from? It seems very "birthright(y)" to me?

Not necessarily... MAP has a percentage, like all other things, and sometimes it doesn't work. I know hands down because it just happened to a co-worker of mine. She took MAP on day 2 after unprotected sex, and found out she WAS pg after using it.

Re: The Morning After Pill
Just to be clear, you can take it up to three days (72 hours)
Emergency contraception (also known as the morning-after pill) is a high dosage of the birth control pill. It is recommended to be used after sexual intercourse, over a period of 72 hours..."

I thought the abortion pill wasn't FDA approved in the US? Or was this approved recently? I know there were a lot of headlines on the subject recently in the last year or two.

Nope, you are probably right, I typed fast and went to the first site. After looking at the site again, it looks a bit slanted.
BTW - it is the source Sonia and Deb linked to......

That's a different point. It certainly doesn't sound like your earlier post.
"I doubt that. It can't be too far because its a public service. Call 911... have an ambulance truck you to the nearest hospital.
Besides... people are talking about the rape word when using this pill. Frankly... if you are raped... you should be going to the hospital anyways and not going to walmart."

I was talking about the rape word because people before me were saying if they were raped... they won't be going to the hospital and they should have the luxury of getting the pill locally.

They should!
But if a company makes a CORPORATE decision to not stock a product (whether it be a pill, a game, a video, a DVD, whatever)... they should not be sued over it.
