Those on Anxiety Meds..a question..

I am sure some of you know my story.. i was sick for two months, was in the Er for two days, was given some meds that I was allergic to and had a bad reaction to (this has basically been proven at this point) and now that I am starting to feel better health wise I am still feeling so anxious over the situation. My psych has given me Xanax at .25 (the lowest dose) to take 2 times a day. When I take it the right way it really does help calm me..but I feel guilty for becoming a person who needs meds now to relax.. I am also terrified I will be come dependent on them but just breathing and trying to relax is not helping.. I still felt jittery and nervous and the Xanax is the only thing stopping that feeling.

Anyone who is feeling anxiety... Do you have guilt b/c u r dealing with the problem through drugs? I just dont know how I got to this point when I should be very happy with my life..

Hi, I just read your post and I just wanted to offer lots of I am dealing with a similar situation myself and am going through the same guilty feelings, I am on an SSRI and am taking xanax on a daily basis (I suffer from general anxiety disorder). I do feel guilty about it, but then if I am off the meds I feel anxious 24/7 which brings on psychical problems too. All in all the meds have helped me big time, but I am torn and frustrated that I as a strong intelligent person am not able to control my anxiety. I am sorry that this is long, and I really can't give you an answer on what to do, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.

I was so against going on meds because I felt that it would make me a failure...like I was too weak to handle this on my own. When I first went on them, I did have some guilt, but you know what? I felt better. I had a better outlook on life. I realized that it's a sickness just like any other...something out of my control. Why shouldn't I take something that helps me? Anyway, I came off the meds because DH and I may TTC soon and I can tell you that I miss them. I am back to feeling panicky and depressed and I know it effects other areas of my life too. Don't know if my ramblings helped at all. Just know you are not alone. So many of us go through this.
