My crown broke!!! : ( and a question...
I had root canal 2 yrs ago, and 2 pieces have cracked off of my crown- I am also scared- the root canal was so awful- the pain I dealt with from it, I have not forgotten. My question is - is it going to hurt when they remove the old crown- I am such a baby when it comes to pain- the pain I experienced was awful 2 yrs ago, all I did was cry and cry from it. To top it all off it is Thanksgiving a few days after he does work on my mouth- I was told by the dentistit should not hurt at all, maybe I would need advil...but would like to hear from anyone who has gone thru this. TIA! I am also not too thrilled with having to get a mold taken of my mouth again- it makes me nauseous!

If Doc B says you shouldn't have pain then I would believe him.
Did he do the original crown?
DH has to get one done too.
I had a filling taken out and replaced and I had no pain. It was a very deep one.
I would think since the nerve is gone you wouldn't have any pain.

I am just a chicken.... G-d help me when I have a kid- I cannot take any pain!!!! he did the original crown- he said it could happen, though it is rare, a piece broke off in the spring and then yesterday I was out to lunch w/ my friend and I noticed lettuce was getting stuck on it- that is what I get for eating healthy.....

You would have no nerve where you had the root canal so it should not hurt. The only pain you might feel is from the position you have to be in or if an instrument hits your gums by accident. I replace my crown often b/c it is a front tooth that needed root canal after an accident. They literally take a plier to remove the old one but I only feel some pressure b/c the nerve is dead. As a point of comparison, when they work on the tooth next to it, they have to numb it up b/c I never had a root canal there. I have a veneer on that tooth b/c that is how they match the appearance and shape of the root canal tooth.

After I had my root canal, I never needed novacain bc the tooth was dead, so I can't see having the crown removed hurting you.. but if you are really scared, you can always have a shot of novacain

This. And your dentist should give you hot if you are that nervous and scared. Each time my says it won't hurt but if it does, he'll give me Novocain. No pain, just a little pressure. Good luck.
