Re: Carpenter ants???
in the sundays paper they wrote about ways to get rid of ants with just ordinary safe stuff.. It was combining coffee beans, with lemon juice and some other stuff.. Ill try and google it for you.
But the key to getting rid of them was to trail where they are entering into house at. bc just getting them at areas you find them wont get rid of them. They leave a trail for other ants to follow leading them to food supply.

Re: Carpenter ants???
I had an issue with them 2 weeks ago as well. I found 12 in my bathroom one night and almost died!
Anyway, I put an ant trap under each radiator.
and very important, I sprinkled Ortho Ant B Gone powder around the foundation of my house and garage door.
I have one seen one ant the past entire week, knock on wood. I am not too sure how safe it is for kids and animals, but it seems to have worked. Just need to get it under control and try to see if you can find out where they are coming from.

Re: Carpenter ants???
Ants can be very annoying pests, they are not easy to get rid of, are pretty resilient and there are so many of them. But do not worry, there are some easy ways to get rid of them without using chemicals. Here are five natural ant repellent that won't put you in danger form using toxic products.
1. Vinegar:Vinegar is such a powerful natural ant repellent, it will cause those pesky critters to run away from wherever you put it. If ants are coming inside your house, spray some around the doors or windows. They won't ever try to go inside your house with the odor of vinegar. You can also spray some on their nests, they won't stay there for long you can be sure about that.
2. Black pepper is another very powerful ant repellent, because they don't like it. If you sprinkle some pepper around your house and near ant nests, they won't come near your house and move away. Just sprinkle some until they are completely gone from your garden or lawn.
3. Cayenne pepper is similar to black pepper, ants just avoid it because of the strong smell. So again spray some around where you don't want to find ants and near their colonies. They will run away in no time.
4. Cinnamon is another natural ant repellent that you can use. It has a similar effect to the different peppers. You can buy it in bulk for pretty cheap and sprinkle it everywhere you don't want ants. It is a lot cheaper than getting chemicals and very effective. It won't kill them, but they will not bother you again.
5. Boiling water is a bit more brutal method to get rid of those ants, but usually works pretty well, if you can get the queen. Usually it won't be a problem if you put enough water down their nest. A few gallons of water should be enough

Re: Carpenter ants???
We had them last year I dont even want to think about it, it was so bad. First look around your bathroom for a leak.
We didnt even know our sink was leaking but then we started seeing these ants. Second, put the traps down.
Third read up on carpenter ants. DH found their nest in our basement below the bathroom in the insulation. I kid you not we had THOUSANDS. It was horrible.
DH bought some heavy duty spray before investigation and good thing. After being sure we got them all, now every year he sprays something around the foundation of the house, which is supposed to block them.
Knock on wood, we have not see anymore since that time!

Re: Carpenter ants???
I TALKED WITH A PROFESSIONAL PEST CONTROL COMPANY, I USE ON A REGULAR BASIS. ALL THE ABOVE WILL KILL THE ANT BUT NOT THE NEST. YOU NEED TO FIND THE NEST. YOU CAN USE WINDEX, WATER, ETC. AND DROWN THE ONES YOU SEE. YOU HAVE TO SPRAY OR BAIT THEM TO GET TO THE NEST.
SPRAYING IS THE FASTEST, BAITING THEM IS THE SAFEST, BUT CAN TAKE MULTIPLE TREATMENTS.
GOOD LUCK, ARTHUR
