I wasn't told to wait at all - my boys (both c's) are 18.5 mos apart.
My OB-GYN happens to be a high risk OB so I'd think if anything he'd have been especially cautious... Depends on the physician I guess.

I wasn't told to wait and I was pregnant with my second by the time my first was 5 months old. I had a very difficult recovery from my second c-section. My stitches had to be removed and for a month a nurse had to come pack my wound. It was a very very painful experience. Then after that my wound still did not completely close and I had to go to a plastic surgeon. Luckily he was able to help me without me having to go for a second surgery. My wound finally healed and I stopped wearing bandages when my DD was 4 months old. I am just thankful that my DD was born healthy and it was me who had the complications. I am not sure if it had to do with having the c-sections too close together. My doctor never made any reference to that. I just thought I would share. I know other who have had 2 C-sections close together and they were fine.
Also, I did not get the stitches taken out until after 2 days being home form the hospital. The first day after my c-section I really felt much better than I did after my first child was born. If I didn't have the crazy complications with my stitches I think I would have actually had a better recovery the second time.

My OB told me to try and wait a year but honestly I don't remember if she said before getting pregnant or delivering, this was at my 6 week appointment and I remember looking at her like she was nuts for even suggesting another pregnancy at that point!

my boys were 16 months apart. both c/s. no problems and i don't remember the doc telling me to wait. although i remember him being shocked when i was up walking the next day!! i must be a fast healer!

My first was a c-section and i became pregnant again when she was 10 months old and my second was a c-section too, thank god no complications but after the second my dr. told me she didnt want to see me for a while LOL

My midwife and her partner OB said that ideally, we wait two years between births if I want a VBAC (which I do). I was told that the longer we wait, the lower the likelihood of uterine rupture. But if I "came back in a couple of months and was pregnant, they'd deal with it." I assume this means that they'd recommend a scheduled c-section.
FWIW, my cousin had three boys in three and a half years, all born by c-section, and mom and babies were perfectly healthy.

I had a vbirth, but just wanted to say that 2 doctors at least 4 nurses, the maintenance guy and the valet. . .all told me to wait at least 18 months before having another. Then, they pulled DH aside and told him the same.
I think this is why I am so petrified of what is going on down there LOL looks like my experience wasn't normal though!

My doctor never told me that, my boys are 23 months apart, and both were emergency c-sections. With my 2nd c-section my doctor told me there wasn't any scar tissue and 2nd time around recovery has been so much easier, which I thought would be the opposite.
