Anyone have a Paragard IUD?
Just curious about your experience with this..
DH and I aren't sure we're going to want another little one for a while since DS is requiring 1000% of our focus with all of his therapy and stuff.
I can't use the Mirena because of the hormones (I get migraines)..
Anyone have the Paragard? How was the procedure to have it placed? Any problems removing it?

Re: Anyone have a Paragard IUD?
I had it - no problems putting it in or taking it out, but I had the worst periods ever while it was in. Heavy bleeding, and terrible terrible cramps - like so bad, I was bed-ridden. I'd never get it again. From what I understand, the hormones in Mirena aren't like the pill because they are confined to your uterus - they don't travel in your bloodstream.

Re: Anyone have a Paragard IUD?
I just had it put in in November---easy to put it--it was a 5 min. procedure.
This month I did get awful cramping--so bad I called the doctors office to make sure they were normal. For me advil helped but they were bad.
DH and I are planning on TTC again within the year so I'll leave it in...but if my cramps are that bad every month, I may reconsider having it put it again....

Re: Anyone have a Paragard IUD?
I've been suffering from Migraines since 6 years old.
I got the mirena, it does not pass hormones anywhere besides the uterus.
I've had no problems

I am going to get it but I have to wait to get AF. i'm BFing and haven't gotten it yet. I've heard AF is terrible but I can't use Mirena due to clotting issues.

Same for me! I am super prone to Migraines. I had the Mirena too and absolutely loved it! I did have it taken out because my 5 years were up, and I am still deciding on whether to get it again or go with Paraguard. I pretty much ruled out Paraguard now - there's no way I can deal with heavy periods and cramps after not having a period at all while I had the Mirena in. It really was a great BC for me.

Re: Anyone have a Paragard IUD?
I had the Paraguard IUD put in almost a year ago. I had it put in last March.
I was BFing at the time and hadn't gotten my period back yet after having my daughter.
The insertion took just a few minutes and was not bad at all.
I started getting my AF a few months later. I'm not going to lie. The first several months when I started getting AF back was crazy. I was having the heaviest AF I had ever had in my entire life. I was bleeding through a super tampon in an hour. I did get crampy and bloated towards the beginning of my period. My AF seemed to last FOREVER.... over a week.
I told my DH I wasn't sure I was going to keep it. But I did tell him I was going to give it a year to see if my body leveled out.
I can tell you that it got MUCH better after about 6 months. My periods are not heavy anymore. They are not lasting as long. I'm not getting cramps like I was in the beginning.
I will say that at this point I'm going to keep it in because everything is fine now!

Re: Anyone have a Paragard IUD?
Just discussed this with my OB at my visit the other day. This will be the route I'm going. I don't want to deal with any hormones as my dr said it is possible for small traces of the progesterone to pass into your blood.
I'm aware of the heavy bleeding with periods, my sister has it and warned me. But she said it eventually regulates and to give it time.
So this is what I'll be doing next month when I get AF (that's when they have to put it in)
I'll be sure to update!!

Re: Anyone have a Paragard IUD?
See the commericial for Mirena states the risk of blood clots, heart attacks etc. So I have to believe the hormones are passsing into your blood stream. To me, that is not a risk I want to take.
I wanted Paraguard but I have a uterine fibroid that already causes somewhat heavy periods so my Dr recommended against it.

Re: Anyone have a Paragard IUD?
bumping for updates. My obgyn and midwife sugested paraguard for me at my 6week postnatal checkup. I've heard that until your body gets used to it your abdomen swells up. Anyone experience this
