More red light camera's.....
The county is looking at putting in more red light camera's..
Below you will find a list of 125 potential sites for the new cameras, along with the number of accidents caused by people running red lights with that being the main cause:

This should be very interesting. I would think millions will be made off a light there. The stuff I see at that light every day

Agreed. Same with the one proposed at Bellmore Ave and Sunrise Highway.
If these go through, most of the lights I go through on a daily basis on LI will have the cameras. I'm all for it.

I got a ticket and based on the pics, i clearly was in the intersection when it was red.. how do i know i wasn't already there for a while? i just assumed i ran the light..
FTR, i'm all for these cameras - the one on Merrick Rd and N. Park in RVC will be great. My DH got smashed into by some idiot who ran a red light at that intersection several years ago.

You should be able to view the video for this and that will show you if you were in the intersection prior to the light turning red.

yeah that should be interesting.... honestly all the lights that they say in bellmore that are getting one should be interesting.... i see so many crazy things at all of them!!!

Thank you for this. I never can find the list. The put one on rt 25a and Rocky Point Road (right by the 7-11) a few months ago. It is right by by job. I know of one intersection in Shirley that if they put one there they could take down the rest of the ones in Suffolk. They would generate millions from that one intersection.

In the way future, every intersection on Long Island will have a camera that will:
1) Catch red light runners
2) Catch speeders when the light is green
3) Catch people with expired registrations via license plate scanning.
That assumes all three separate technologies currently in use are merged into one device. As it is now, speed cameras are only used in certain states and unmanned license plate scanners are used in the UK. Here in the U.S., license plate scanners are run by police officers in patrol cars. That could change some day as even more revenue is needed.

Im not against them, but installing them everywhere is getting rediculous... I actually dread traveling down middle country with all the cameras... Im the type that will jam on the brakes for fear the camera is going to get me and someone is bound to plow into me one of these days... And Im sure there are plenty others who do the same... I think it will cause more accidents in the end to be honest... If people just LOOK before going through the green light to make sure cars are slowing down in the other direction, things would be okay... I think it has more to do with generating money... yet, will we really see a reduction in taxes, etc, prob not!

lakeland and sunrise hwy in bohemia now has one. they should have it on sunrise and lakeland thats the light people go through. thats not on that list for google. i guess people add them idk i didnt look how to do it

Did you see the article the other day on MSN about red light cameras actually causing more accidents from people being fearful of getting a ticket and slamming on their brakes.
The article even went on to say how some of the yellow lights were timed for a quick change to red. The seconds was under the recommended time frame so people don't have a chance to stop and they get a ticket.
While i think the cameras do make people more conscious. There should be more info available about the seconds of the yellow light and what they consider giving a ticket for.
DH got a ticket, which BTW he fought and won, for turning left when it turned red. He was already in the intersection when it was green, yellow and then got to turn on red because another car blew through a red the other way. It was a danger for him not to turn, but he still got the ticket and had to fight it.

Same concept as a red light ticket. If an officer issues it to you it goes to the driver. If the camera catches you it goes to the registered owner and no points. Arizona has used them for years. The ticket goes to the registered owner and is an administrative offense just like running an RLC.

I got a ticket while driving in my Dad's car. I didn't realize I had run the red light, but my Dad knew he had never driven in Staten Island (where I got the ticket). Of course, I paid the ticket, but there were no points on either of our licenses.

With every respect- Its a win/loose.
I have been caught 3 times making a right on red. I holestly didnt realize I was doing something wrong. But thats another story.
I feel that I am MUCH more prone to cause an accident now since I will stop short on a yellow no matter what.
