how did you know it was time to switch formula?
DS is 5 weeks old and on enfamil. He eats about 3 oz. per feeding but after the first oz. he gets very fussy and getting him to drink the rest of the bottle is a struggle. I burp him frequently, but was wondering if we should switch to gentlease? The pediatrician thinks as long as he is gaining weight he is fine. I don't think he is though.
He does vomit up his food probably once a day, but he is not screaming in pain, just VERY fussy while eating.

when you say "vomit" how much we talking? Is it the entire feeding or around a tablespoon? If its a tablespoon that's normal (we call it spit up)
I knew to switch DS when he was suffering tremendously from gas. After feedings was the worst.

Before you totally switch formula I would give the Mylicon drops a try. They can make a world of difference.

are you on newborn or enfamil infant?
I love gentlease...it is seriously the best formula in my opinion. Most babies between 4-12 weeks of age have issues iwht gas b/c of the difficulty tolerating the full lactose load of formula - form having a minor lactose sensativity due to an immature gut.
Gentlease helps in this situation b/c it has reduced lactose -but keeps some in to keep the enzyme lactase working in the gut, and has partially hydrolyzed proteins which make it easier to digest.
Anyway...I see great results with this product...and the company has a program called helping hands were they will send you some samples to try....

I switched to Enfamil Gentlese as well. I told the Pediatrician and he agreed I did the right thing bc she was fussing a bit to much. So I am now using that in combination with the mylicon drops. Though I never had a problem with her eating ,I do have a problem with her burping, she is taking at least a bit over 5oz at alittle over 5 wks. After reading your post , Iam wondering if she is eating to much?

After reading your post , Iam wondering if she is eating to much?
2.5 oz per pound per day, is the average, if you are above this, its not at all to worry, newborns take what they need. Worry more about overeating when they start solids

I have been using the gas drops since he was like a week old.
What I did do today, is take some of your advice(thanks ladies) and cut back the food. He is eating about 2.5 oz - 3 oz per feeding today and so far, so good. Of course, he wants to eat more frequently, but as long as he is not vomiting anymore(and it was a huge amount, like projectile, take a shower and give your kid a bath). He still seems a bit fussy but not as bad and no vomit so far!!!! yeah!!!
eta: at last weeks appt. he weighed 9 lbs. 3 oz.
