How does this menu sound?

A few weeks ago, I had mentioned that DH & I were considering doing a fall "barbecue," where we just serve a bunch of different fall appetizers throughout the day. How does this menu and timing sound to you?

3pm (We told everyone to come at 2:30, but no one we know is ever on time. If people get here on time, we'll bring out this stuff before):
-Meat, cheese, fresh vegetable platter
-Mini toast w/ apple butter, pumpkin butter, jelly, etc.
-A trail mix-esque type of dish

4pm:
-Tortellini with black olives
-Cauliflower fritters
-Baked eggplant sticks w/ marinara sauce dip

5pm:
-Meatball cupcakes
-Baked chiptole sweet potato fries
-"Spider web" dip (a guacamole based dip with a spider web design drawn on it)

6:30pm:
-Eggplant rollatini
-Flatbread with pesto
-Breaded chicken fingers

7:30pm:
-Meatloaf muffins
-Potato pancakes
-Bacon corn bread

8:30pm:
-Apple pie
-Pumpkin pie
-Pumpkin cupcakes with spiced cream cheese frosting
-Candy corn cookies
-Candy/caramel apples
-Candy bark

Drinks throughout the day:
-Fall wines
-Hot caramel apple cider
-Sour apple punch w/ vodka
-The usual beer, liquor, soda, water, juice

Wow!! That sounds great. A nice variety of everything and I think most people will find something they like, if not all of it!! I think it is nice to have such variety, points for you and your hostess skills. Good luck, seems like a lot of food and cooking on your part, but I think it is fabulous.

Thanks so much! Chat Icon Yes, it definitely is going to be a lot of work! DH is going to help me and my parents & siblings always do too, so that should be helpful!

I'm sure it will be great. My wedding was just like that all small dishes...not a sit down and to this day people still rave about how different it was and people really liked the concept. Something different and refreshing...also keeps the party hopping! The anticipation of the next 'round' keeps people excited!!

How about adding a signature drink every other course...something fall themed...maybe some sort of cider martini or hot cider at the end...put them in very small cups like shot glasses....or even send people off with a good bag with a carmel apple or fall treat...ok, sorry, i'm putting more on your plate, i just really like your idea and may steal it for my next dinner party

Luckily, I have Fridays off from work, so it's ok if I go a little crazy because I'll have the whole day to prepare lolol

Sounds amazing and I am in AWE of you for being able to pull this off. I'm so the buffet type chick.

I have a feeling your guests are all going to be in a food coma by the time they are supposed to leave!Chat Icon

WOW, this sounds incredible!!! What time should we be there??Chat Icon

Much like Jeannie, I am the buffet type. It takes lots of skill to pull this off. Timing in the kitchen is my biggest challenge

Re: How does this menu sound?

At the 7:30p slot I would add a fall salad of sorts. Like a lettuce leaf with pear, walnut, cranberries, gorgonzola, and balsamic dressing.

I think it all sounds good, but there are some heavy foods so this might lighten it up a tad. I figured the guac was a cold app so that's why I thought this slot.

Re: How does this menu sound?

This sounds awesome!! I would make sure people understand about the courses so they don't load up early.

Re: How does this menu sound?

Wow that is very ambitious!!
Sounds amazing, but will you enjoy the party having to put food out at all those times? Seems like a lot of food to me.

I like to have apps, and then the main course (tapas style, if you want) then dessert. JMO
