I love this thread!!!!!!!

1. We put the tree up and decorate the day after Thanksgiving. We make hot chocolate and play xmas music while we deocrate.

2. My mom bakes what she calls "Christmas morning treasure buns" every Christmas morning and we eat them while we're opening presents.

3. We each get a new ornament for the tree every year

4. Every year my dad buys my mom and I a box of our favorite chocolate covered pretzels for our stockings.

5. We always leave christmas cookies and milk out for Santa.

6. In past years, Xmas Eve was for extended family and Xmas day was spent at home playing with our gifts. This year we're moving into our first place and we have DS, so xmas eve will be with extended family again but I think xmas morning we will invite both sets of Grandparents over to open presents with DS and have a big Christmas brunch.

This thread gave me some great ideas - I love reading everyone else's traditions. I think this year we'll start Elf on a Shelf for DS and I love the pajama idea for xmas eve! Also love the idea of camping out under the xmas tree and watching movies.

To the OP - great thread idea!! I'm bookmarking this one Chat Icon

Thx!!........glad you like it!

Re: Holiday Traditions Thread - Please Come On In

I am adding a new one this year now that my DD is 3............NYC Holiday Trip! My DH company shuts down for the last two weeks of the year so the week leading into Xmas we're taking Emerson into the city to see the Radio City Show and the tree. I CANNOT wait.

My DD LOOOOOVES to bake and cook so for her bday we got her real chef tools but that are made for kids so I am VERY excited to cook and bake up a storm with her this season.

There are SO many things I would LOVE to do............I need Xmas to be THREE months long!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

We are both Jewish but we have one Christmas tradition. Dinner DOWNSTAIRS at:

Jews-a-plenty in Chinatown on Christmas!

On Chanukah, we make sure we light candles and say the prayers every night in Hebrew - particularly since we had kids so they are exposed to our faith and its culture as early as possible.

Oh ad I always post my menorahs HERE each night as well as the proper way to light them for inside and outside use. Though last year I lost computer use and couldn't!

this is my fave Chinese restaurant in the city!!!

When we were kids, my brother and I had little trees in our room with our own special ornaments. Santa left one present under that tree, each year...which was very exciting to wake up to Chat Icon

So, this year, we are going to get our twins their own little trees, and add a special ornament each year.

my mom always bought us (and still does Chat Icon Chat Icon ) christmas pjs and gives them to us xmas eve.

Same here. Have to look your best for Santa! We usually all dress up a little for Christmas eve, but we change into the PJs as soon as we open them and take a picture in front of the tree (we do Christmas eve with extended family so it makes for a fun group shot.) Plus then everyone gets to be comfy for the ride home, and little ones who fall asleep in the car can be carried right into bed. :)

My parents did this too, and we were allowed to open that present right away. I think it was their way of getting 5 more minutes of sleep. I had sort of forgotten about that until I read this. I think I will have to start doing it with DS.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE this thread- so glad you bumped it because i forgot to notebook it last year!

DD will be 20months at christmas, we are starting elf on the shelf this year and i can't wait!

when we get out tree we always order pizza & salad and listen to christmas music while we decorate and i make mint chocolate chip cookies & hot chocolate when we finish and we sit and look at our finished tree :)

my mother makes eggs, sausage & we enjoy the portugese sweet bread my uncle makes for breakfast every christmas morning.

we also open our christmas pjs the night before and at 30, i still look forward it new pjs!

my mother makes a roast with spinach, twice baked potatoes & other sides for dinner then we do karaoke (not sure how it started, but every year we do it and it just stuck!).

stockings are done before bed, and we each chose a name at thanksgiving for whose stocking we stuff.

can't wait for christmas now!

Re: Holiday Traditions Thread - Please Come On In

Fun thread! We really didn’t have any. Thanks to Mom who strived to scare us from Santa. Haha

So we’ve been starting our own. Hubby and I get ornaments every year that sum up the whole year or something important. Last year we got one that says “our home” and the year. One year it was mice baking because I baked like a mad woman that year. Etc. Too bad I keep misplacing them LOL But one day we’ll find them all.

With AJ just last year (she was 2) we started letting her help me put the tree up (plastic) she helps decorate it. I have video of her last year busily putting up the ornaments singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. So she’ll help me fix the tree then we make gingerbread cookies together. Last year she helped by pushing on the cutter and moving it from the tray to the cookie sheet for me. This year I hope she can help decorate. Going to make sugar ones this year that she can sprinkle.

We’ve also try to always get xmas photos of her in a santa hat and with The Grinch who stole Christmas book. Its neat to see one year over the next with the same book.

You know what was fun, last year I did gingerbread with Emerson but I found this giant gingerbread man pan and we made a big Chat Icon and a big Chat Icon one that she decorated. It was great because she would've lost interest in too many cookies to decorate. I think I got it in Michael's.

Re: Holiday Traditions Thread - Please Come On In

WE play a socking game. My mom gives us gifts that are in our stocking. She puts a number on each present. We all open one at a time. Whoever has the highest number wins and gets scratch off tickes. If there is a tie, they split the tickets. One year we won 2500 and split it among all of us. We have a 500 rule. If the winnings is more than 500 we have to split it among all of us.
