Gall bladder surgery??

I need to have my gall bladder out. I didn't need to have emergency surgery on Saturday but I already have my appointment to see the surgeon to schedule.

What is the surgery like?

Anyone use Stony brook surgeons or can recommend a surgeon in Suffolk?

Thanks

Re: Gall bladder surgery??

I HIGHLY reccommed Dr. Vitolo in Smithtown at St. Catherines.
I had mine out by him in 2008 after a series of attacks (one of which happened IN his office)
The surgery was basically easy. I had it done laproscopically and have 3 incision scars. One in my upper abdomen, one to the side and one in my belly button. My surgery was only 5 weeks after I had a C/S with my son, so my abdomen was a mess!

FYI, a day after I had my gall bladder out and was sent home, I had an attack! How does that happen you ask? I actually had a stone OUTSIDE of my gall bladder in my bile duct (no way for the surgeon to know this). I wound up back in the hospital and had an ERCP procedure done where they go down my throat with a scope and get the other stone out. Originally, the docs didn't want to have to do that since it's considered "invasive", but it had to be done. I am glad i did have this secondary procedure done because I could have had an attack 10 years later if it wasn't taken out. Chat Icon

Anyway, I could go on and on. But, call Dr. Vitolo - he is really a great guy and a great surgeon. You will LOVE him!

I have had surgery done by him, so has DH and BIL too. We all thought he was great.

Dr. Zingale also removed my gallbladder 3 years ago. Surgery and recovery went well. Good luck!
