Training for a half in 2 months?????

Can you train for a half marathon in 2 months?!?! Or should I start with a 10k?!? Unfortunately Too many things got in the way of my training (2 stomach viruses, 3 colds, my baby was sick a few times, etc. It's been an annoying winter). So now I'm not ready. Is 2 months even possible to train. I'm so bummed! Chat Icon

disclaimer: i have never run a half

but i have been following hal higdon's 10k training and i know his half training is 12 weeks long.

but correct me if I'm wrong, i thought I've seen prior posts of yours that you run pretty consistently??

depending on how much you've been running, it may be possible to get to that half.

Yes. I run consistently. 4-5 times a week, usually 3 miles a day. On weekends I go longer, around 5. Im not sure if that's enough though.

again I'm no expert and have not yet run a half marathon, however your routine now sounds a lot like what the 10k training schedule calls for. so i think you can totally pick up hal's half training schedule from week 3 and if you're really motivated I'm sure you will push yourself to completion!

hopefully some experienced half-er's can chime in and give you some more advice. but i have found with running, if my mindset is there, i can really push myself!

I just completed my second half marathon--you can do training in 2 mos. I would just pick up a running schedule from week 4 or 5 (like someone else suggested) and continue on.

For my most recent half (on Sunday) I did not stick to training and did a few 6 milers and hill/speed training and ended up doing a 1:52 half. Yes, I'm in pain this week but I'm glad I pushed myself. You'll be fine with 2 months!

I need at least 4 mts. Depends on what kind of half you want to run. I keep going for PR's. If I didn't care about that, I could do it on 2 mts....

I think you can...

I would do one long run a week starting this week and add a mile to it every week till you hit 11 miles. You don't need to train any further than 11.

I just ran my second half...I started training for it in late december, and it was on st pattys day. I was absolutely fine. DH did it too, and had no real running experience prior to it..he did AWESOME!

I trained for my first in 9 weeks. I think you can do it since (besides your recent illnesses) you run regularly and are in pretty good shape.

just wanted to add you can do it!

just ran my first half this past sunday...farthest I ran before the race was 10 miles.

I didn't know I was going to get in the race until the first week of February (ran through a charity) and the race was on March 18th. Before finding out I was running consistently 4 times a week and because of that once I found out I just started adding one mile a week (as suggested by a previous poster) until I hit 10.

I definitely think you can do it! I trained for one in a little less than 2 months due to an injury. I know you have mentioned that you run pretty consistently and I found that the best way of me training was pushing myself just a little longer on my runs every week. There are so many training plans you can follow as well which I know friends of mine have followed with success. I just tried to add on an extra mile once a week on one of my runs and then the other days I did shorter 3-4 mile runs. I don't know if that's the best way to train but it's what worked for me. The longest I ran before the half was 10 miles and I felt great in the final 3 miles of the half. Don't doubt yourself, I really think you can do it!

Since you already have a base of 3+ miles, I think you definitely can. Even if you just increase your long run by 1 mile each week.
